At Coolblue, we have 4 groups for screen quality. The quality of a screen depends on multiple properties. The panel type and resolution are the most important properties. This determines the largest part of the screen quality. HDR support is also very important. When a screen has HDR support, it can display more color variations. This provides a more vibrant image. In addition, we also take the refresh rate and pixel density into account.
Mediocre screen: for basic use
Tablets with a mediocre screen don't stand out with bright colors and sharp images. This way, you can't watch a movie or series in the highest quality. Mediocre screen has a lesser quality panel and no HDR support. This means that the screen displays less color variation. For example, you can only see 1 shade of red as a result. The different colors don't stand out, so it looks more bland. If you don't watch many movies and mainly browse the internet, a mediocre screen is sufficient. The S8 Lite and A7 have a mediocre screen.
Decent screen: standard quality movies
A decent screen sometimes has HDR support, so it has a wider color representation. The screen still isn't the best quality, mainly due to the panel. The panel type determines for a large part how the images are displayed. A decent screen is suitable if you perform tasks that don't really rely on screen quality. Tablets with a decent screen are the Tab S7 FE, Tab A8, Tab A9, and Tab A9 Plus.
Good screen: watch movies and series
With a good screen, you can watch high-quality movies or series. The colors are bright, thanks to the panel and HDR support. A good screen is suitable if you watch many movies and series on your tablet. A good visual display is also nice if you play 3D games.
Excellent screen: the best quality
An excellent screen has all important properties, so the colors are as nice and clear as possible. It also displays images sharply and you have a high refresh rate. This way, you'll have a smooth viewing experience without stuttering images. The Tab S9, Tab S9 Plus, and Tab S9 Ultra have an excellent screen.
