Over the past few weeks I've had the chance to extensively test the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lens, and I have to say that I'm impressed with its performance. Compact/light: One of the first things I noticed when holding this lens was its remarkable compactness and lightness. It feels like you're holding a premium piece of technology, but without the weight you'd normally expect with such performance. Bokeh: The bokeh effect this lens produces is simply beautiful. It adds a professional touch to any shot, making your subject really stand out. It's the perfect way to add a touch of creativity to your photography, without compromising the overall quality of your images. Autofocus: As for autofocus, this lens certainly doesn't disappoint. Fast, accurate and virtually silent, it makes capturing sharp images a breeze. Whether you're photographing fast-moving subjects or capturing still scenes, you'll always get the perfect shot with this lens. Close-up performance: I've used the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lens mainly for close-up portrait photography, and I have to say I'm impressed with its performance in this area. Every detail is captured with astonishing sharpness, bringing my photos to a new level of realism. Fixed aperture: Another advantage of the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lens is the fixed aperture of f/2.8. This ensures consistent exposure across the entire zoom range, so you don't have to compromise on image quality. Whether you zoom in or zoom out, the lens consistently performs at its best.

Very nice and solidly built lens, the difference with my other lenses is clearly noticeable. A large part of the body is plastic but feels very sturdy, and the rubber grip on the focus ring provides a nice hold. The lens has 3 rings for autofocus, aperture and zoom. They all have a good grip and turn very smoothly with just enough resistance to give you a lot of control. The aperture ring has clicks on each step. These can also be disabled (very useful for video). I am used to operating everything on my camera body, so I mainly left it on auto. The click to get it out of there has enough resistance that it doesn't just happen by accident. One of the highlights of this lens is the autofocus. The subject is quickly found and accurately focused, even in low light. In addition, the autofocus operates whisper-quiet, which is useful when photographing events or in quiet environments. The zoom behavior of the lens is unusual but interesting. When zooming out, the lens becomes longer. The lens is therefore standard (at the shortest how you probably store it) so 50mm. As someone who shoots a lot at 50mm, I see this as an advantage. After some getting used to this feels natural. The sharpness of the photos is impressive. The lens continues to capture details both in the center and at the edges of the image. * lens was made available for this review, but no influence was exerted on this review

I was able to test this lens for a period of 2 weeks. The new Sony FE 24-50mm f2.8 G is a versatile variant on the classic standard zoom. Because this lens only goes up to 50mm, it has remained very compact and light, which makes it a nice lens to take with you on the road. Although it lacks the range that a 24-70mm has, it is a lot more compact and easy to operate. The autofocus works properly, is fast and quiet. even in poor lighting conditions, and this works fine when filming. Very nice if you use the lens for filming or street photography. The bokeh is beautifully soft thanks to the 11 blades of the diaphragm. It is possible to take beautiful close-ups with a minimum focusing distance of 19cm, which also works well in practice. Beautiful details emerge from the photos taken. If you do not use the correction software of the camera itself and shoot in raw format, you will see considerable distortion after importing. If you use correction software, this is quite easy to solve, but it is still a small disadvantage.
