Description

Secure everything in and around your home with the Philips Hue Secure Wired Security Camera. When it detects movement, you get a notification via the Hue app and your Hue lights will turn on. That way, you never walk into a dark home. This white camera stands out, so you scare off intruders. You place the Hue Secure camera on any desk or cabinet thanks to the included stand. Talk to people on the other side of the camera thanks to the 2-way audio. You need a subscription to create activity zones for movement notifications to recognize people, animals, and packages. Connect the cameras to a Bridge to also use routines. With the Bridge, you can connect multiple Hue devices to each other, such as your lights, sensors, and cameras. That way, your lights flicker when your camera detects movement for example.

Good images, otherwise too limited

  • Image quality
  • Construction quality
  • Privacy through encryption
  • Images cannot be saved locally

Experience with the Hue bridge and Hue lamps made us enthusiastic about this camera and the contents of the box did not disappoint: the strong magnet and the heavy tripod make the camera very easy to place so that it can be set up anywhere. We want to hang the camera in the garage with a view of the back door: it is possible to hang the camera from the ceiling with the supplied cap, the strong magnet will also keep it in place. The adapter has a sufficiently long cable. Installation is done by following the step-by-step instructions in the Hue app. The camera comes with a "proof of ownership" with a QR code to scan during installation. Even though this QR code seemed easy to read on my phone screen, I had to move a bit for a better distance and turn the map around for a good scan. After choosing the WiFi network and entering the corresponding password, the camera was set. The security for storing the recorded camera images has been well thought out. Encryption with passphrase is applied. Only people with this passphrase can use the camera. The camera's image is absolutely good and the images are delayed very little. The camera has 3 states: Off, Armed Home and Armed Away. For both enabled states, you can set how motion detection should be handled: which lights should flash (red or white) and whether the cameras should sound a siren. Unfortunately, all of this can only be operated from the app and not from, for example, a home automation server. And that is quite a downer for me. Our back door has an electric lock and I wanted to be able to turn the camera on/off based on the status of that lock, so we can see who came in through the open back door and when. In addition, I expected to be able to take action in my home automation system as soon as motion was detected. The same applies to the video images, which can only be viewed in the app and not via ONVIF, for example. This means that images can only be stored in the cloud and this requires a paid subscription. I find it difficult to get over these disadvantages, the camera has a considerable price and on top of that there is a subscription. The image quality and the encryption of the images are positive for privacy reasons.

Still not working after hours.

I have been trying to add the camera to my Hue environment for several hours. The app keeps giving the following error: "Can't add camera to Home. The camera must be turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your mobile device." I turned off my 5G on my mobile, I turned off my WiFi boosters, turned off 5GHz on the router, restarted everything several times. I can't connect the camera to the app. What also struck me is that the foot is not included with the camera, even though it can be seen in the product photos. The plug is also attached to the cable, so you immediately have to drill a thick hole through the outside wall! But what I find most strange about this design is that the camera is 'fixed' by a magnet! You literally pull the camera right off the wall. I hope I will be able to link the camera to my account, but so far I am anything but satisfied with my purchase! While normally I am a big fan of Philips Hue!

Disappointing product

  • Quick installation
  • Live view
  • Works nicely with Philips Hue bridge
  • Image quality - zooming in is poor

I had high expectations for this camera. Unfortunately, it is unsuitable for permanent surveillance. Can only be used as a signal device. Then 60 seconds of recording. With multiple movements in a short time, the system misses a lot. Suitable for entrance detection and similar applications. Not for free.
