Razor-sharp screen, fast and very handy extras.

  • Large and bright screen
  • Free parking spaces and petrol prices
  • Fast and easy to use
  • Voice control could be more extensive
The GO Discover combines a crystal-clear screen with the speed I'm used to from my smartphone. Just don't forget your charger, without it it will last up to 2 hours. Large and bright screen The quality of the HD screen surprises me. That's a really big improvement on my older model. It has bright colors, clean lines and clear icons. This makes it easy for me to read my route. The 7 inch screen is too big for my small car window and high dashboard. A holder for my dashboard or a 6 inch size solves this. Battery drains quickly The TomTom was already charged when I first wanted to use it. Handy, because that's how I set it up right away. The battery lasts up to 2 hours. I forgot my charger, so after 2 hours the system suddenly shut down. Luckily I was almost home. From now on I will leave the charger in my glove compartment. Free parking spaces and cheapest petrol prices Yes, this makes me happy. Last weekend I wanted to park in Amsterdam. Normally not an easy task. But now the TomTom pointed me to free parking spaces in parking garages. This saves me a lot of frustration. It also shows gasoline prices on the go. This saves me a lot of money during our car holidays through Europe. Clear lane directions Now I have quite a bit of driving experience, but I sometimes have trouble choosing a lane. Especially on 6-lane highways and during rush hour. In such situations, the TomTom clearly indicates which lane to choose. It shows an image and gives you a voice prompt. Fast and easy to use Hitches, a slow screen and a long wait for the updates to finish. I experienced this with my previous device. The GO Discover, on the other hand, reacts immediately when I scroll with my finger on the screen or type in something. Only the voice control function could be slightly better. He doesn't recognize everything I say. Similar to Google search. With my old device, I had to find my destination by typing in this order: country, city, street. As impatient as I am, this sometimes frustrated me. With the GO Discover, I just type in 1 keyword and the device does the rest. Really progress.

Just a great device that really isn't a bad buy.

  • Quality of the cards and bright display
  • Traffic information
  • Speed Cameras
  • Can't really find it yet
When I first started using the GO Discover, I was immediately pleasantly surprised. A complete package that was easy to install. Very user-friendly, a child can do the laundry. Just follow the steps on the device and the device is really ready to use in no time. Linking the Go Discover to the mobile phone is also very simple. That significantly increases user value. It is important for the reception of the traffic information that you not only switch on Bluetooth, but also the so-called tethering (= personal hotspot). Without that, the device will of course also work, but you will miss that very good traffic information that is really excellently taken care of at TomTom. It all uses so little data that you really don't have to worry about your data credit being consumed by your TomTom. The 'search function' works really well, where in addition to addresses, zip codes, etc., you can also search by category, such as gas stations, restaurants and much more. That works super fast. The traffic information that is provided is really very up to date, as I have experienced several times. Traffic jams and delays are displayed very reliably in terms of topicality and traffic jams can be avoided if desired. The file with the detested speed cameras is also up to date, which can save you quite a bit of money. Your purchase price can even be quickly earned back if you sometimes have the tendency to drive (slightly) too fast (and who doesn't do that every now and then?). The same applies to the petrol prices that apply at gas stations along the route, just pay attention to the TomTom for the current price, you can save quite a bit. Keeping the maps up to date is a piece of cake, if there is a connection to the WIFI, the device automatically indicates that there are updates of maps and whether the speed camera file is available. Updates are offered with great regularity and downloading updates is really super fast via 5GHz WIFI. The display is absolutely clear, the quality of the maps is high and the directions are not misinterpreted both visually and by voice. The speaker gives a very good sound and the sound level is easy to adjust, while there is a choice of many voices. There is a wide choice of what information you want to see on your screen, there you can fully use your personal preference – again in a particularly user-friendly way. Arrival information, petrol stations on the route, parking spaces, etc, it is all very clear and useful. There is of course much more to write, but I am just a very satisfied user of this device. What I particularly like is that the operation of the device is actually immediately clear to the largest layman, you do not have to follow a study, the way is self-explanatory. The device can also be controlled with your voice (voice control). There are all kinds of possible voice commands built-in ("go to an address" and many more commands I won't mention here). It is self-evident. That works really well in my experience. For enthusiasts, it can be noted that, for example, at home on your computer in TomTom MyDrive you can make entire routes in advance and then send them very easily to the device, the so-called synchronization. Less important if you want to quickly get from A to B, but again if you want to make a travel schedule in advance for the holiday. Works really great. Is there nothing to remark? Perhaps, but I haven't found any objectionable points in the time I've been using the device. I definitely consider it a responsible purchase and that 7 inch screen is great and clear.

TomTom Go Discover, really better!

  • Screen size 6 or even 7 inches
  • Speed
  • Update maps via WiFi per country or adjustments
  • Own data connection could be experienced as a downside
Upon receipt, it appears that this TomTom (TT) is in a solid packaging, not too big and not too small. Beautiful white box, with a PND (personal navigation device), USB cable, holder and USB charger for the car and of course a short manual. It is recommended to use these, but more on that later. Setting up the TT is easy via the steps that you have to go through. It is recommended to immediately create an account and connect to the Wifi, although this is also possible via Bluetooth. With the account you have access to certain things, such as syncing routes online. Online you have access to Mydrive, where you can manage your places, but also create routes, all of which sync with your TT. You use the WiFi to update the TT at home. Both the firmware and the cards. Updating maps nowadays is no longer done with 1 large file, but in parts per country. So you now have regular updates. The TT will of course indicate this itself. So what's so special about this new GO Discover? It is available in 3 sizes, namely 5.6 and 7". I personally chose the 6", the perfect size for me. This Discover does not contain a built-in SIM card, so it does not have a data connection via GPS, compared to other models. However, this can now be arranged by the user himself in 2 other ways, i.e. BYOC, Bring your Own Connection. If you have Wi-Fi in the car, you can connect the Discover with the Wi-Fi in your car and that's it, or you can create a hotspot on your phone. But what this Discover is actually meant for is to pair it with your phone via BT. LOOK OUT! For this you have to set in the BT settings that you want to share data via BT. This way you have data on the Discover and so you are provided with traffic and flash information. And... if you don't have a car kit, you can of course also call hands-free this way. Pairing the Discover with the phone has to be done via the manual, because it is just a bit more "work" than connecting, for example, a headset to your phone. Let's go! Looking up an address or other useful location is done via the data link, among other things. So it must be crazy if you can't find your destination. You can also choose how you want to search. Good to have a look at this, but the standard will suffice in most cases. After selecting the destination, the fastest route is chosen by default, but 2 alternative routes also appear on the screen. Up to you! After starting the route planning, it is immediately noticeable (at least if you are used to previous models) that the interface has been considerably renewed. The colors, details and sharpness of the image are great. Personally, I like this one much better. Of course the well-known bar on the right is still present, but at the top left we now find the directions with the following instructions, somewhat similar to the blue traffic signs. Really super clear. Exits on the highway are clear, because the screen then temporarily switches to the so-called Lane Assist. So you can clearly see which lane you need. I have been a TT user for years and am very satisfied with the file and flash information. The traffic jams were of course already very good, but I have the idea that the mobile speed cameras have been greatly improved. I compared this to Flitsmeister and both were almost always right. One time TT knew and FM didn't, and vice versa. Despite the fact that it is quieter on the road, TT has again saved me a number of times by avoiding traffic jams. After quite a few rides I can say that I am very satisfied with the Go Discover. It is very fast, clear and the routes of TT are still the best in my opinion. Controlling the data connection yourself is not a problem for me, perhaps this is even better, since you are no longer dependent on what TT supplies you. If you don't have a built-in navigation in your car and you don't want to hang your phone on the dashboard (and the screen is of course much smaller), then this TT Go Discover is highly recommended.
