Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM

It is always a challenge for me to keep my camera equipment as compact as possible when I travel. I don't feel like dragging a large camera bag around, so I usually opt for a zoom lens with which I can photograph everything. Before leaving I shoot the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM on my EOS R and it won't come off until after I return. Thanks to the large zoom range, I can photograph both landscapes and portraits. When traveling, I don't worry about missing my ultimate photo opportunity because I can easily zoom in and out.

Zoom range The 24-70mm lens is all I need when traveling. For photographing architecture or landscapes, I use the lens at 24mm. I zoom in to 35mm if I want to shoot a cool street photo in Rotterdam, for example. I shoot a fat portrait of a random passerby in the city at 70mm. And all without losing time, because I don't have to change lenses. An additional advantage is that my bag also remains nice and empty. That is also nice, because at 900 grams this lens is not very light. Yet until now I have not had the idea that I am walking around with a very heavy lens.

Diaphragm This lens performs well even in the evening hours. I open the aperture all the way to f/2.8 to capture the atmosphere of the city. This way I work with a small depth of field and I catch enough light to photograph in the evening. I preferred the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2.0L because it has a larger aperture, but unfortunately it was too heavy for me when traveling. In addition, the 24-70 has built-in image stabilization, which makes it easy to shoot handheld with a slow shutter speed. That's useful during concerts or when I'm just strolling through the city. I don't need to raise the ISO value either. Saves noise in my photos again.

Autofocus Using the screen of my EOS R, I can easily focus on my subject. The lens generally responds very quickly to this. What is most striking is that focusing is done in silence. I find that very nice when taking street photos, because I prefer not to stand out. So the quieter the better. The same goes for during filming. I do not hear this lens when editing my videos.
