Description

The Rode Videomic Pro Rycote is suitable for the advanced videographer. This directional microphone has a 3.5mm mini jack connector. Thanks to the included shock mount, the microphone doesn't record any contact sound. This means that you won't hear the sound of the camera buttons in your video. Thanks to the super cardioid pattern, the microphone picks up the sound of the subject it's pointed towards. This makes the microphone ideal for recording interviews. You can set the sensitivity according to your own wishes, enabling you to record very loud and very soft sounds. With a 9-volt battery, you can record up to 70 hours of sound.

Note: batteries are not included by default.

Awful design, supreme audio quality

I am quite puzzled with this microphone. For 185 EUR you get a piece of plastic of the cheapest kind. The battery door can be barely closed without bending it or breaking it. The audio is a different story though. How is it possible that such body carries such supreme audio quality?? After all, I would not recommend this device. There are similar microphones, better built, and cheaper.

I am super happy that I bought the RED VIDEOMIC PRO RYCOTE! I'm using it now on my Canon eos 750d. And it produces great audio quality! But what is a point.. Is that the microphone can record in an even better quality, if you connect the microphone to an external audio recorder. That's because DSLRs aren't very good at recording audio. This is due to the preamp that is in the camera. And because I don't want to carry a whole external audio recorder with me. I tried to avoid the preamp in the camera. I do this by setting the lower switch on the back of the microphone to +20 dB as standard. And then I reduce the sound sensitivity of the camera. You can adjust this in the settings of the camera.
