Pros and cons

According to our drill expert

  • With a drill capacity up to 36mm in wood, you can use this drill for medium to heavy drilling jobs.
  • The high maximum torque of 42Nm makes the drill suitable for heavy screwing jobs, like loosening rusty screws.
  • You can also use the included Makita G battery on other powertools of the same brand and with the same battery platform.
  • The machine doesn't have work lighting, making jobs in poorly lit areas difficult.

Description

With a weight of only 1.7kg, it's also pleasant to work with the Makita DF457DWE for a long time. Especially when you add the soft grip and the ergonomic handle. The variable speed control ensures optimal screwdriving. And if you want to drill, you can do that with up to 1400RPM. This allows you to drill holes of 36mm in wood with ease. The maximum torque of 42Nm provides sufficient power when loosening and tightening all types and sizes of screws. So whether you want to assemble a cabinet or build a complete fence, the DF457DWE is your partner in crime. Good choice, powerful machine

  • batteries do not run out
  • charge within 1 hour
  • fits well in the hand
  • no built-in light
I struggled with a Bosch cordless drill for several years. Great machine but useless batteries. Every time I wanted to do odd jobs, the batteries were empty. A charged battery drained within 1 day. Bought new batteries and within six months the same misery again. At my last job, a full battery was just enough to fasten 2 screws. So time for a new cordless drill. Because of my bad experiences with the NiCd batteries, I searched the internet for experiences. Here the Makita DF330DWE immediately stood out because of its excellent reviews. The experiences were also very positive on German and English-language sites. Not only the performance but also the batteries score high. The only thing holding me back was the 10.8 volts. Because the batteries no longer run empty, the Makita also goes on holiday. There it must be strong enough for the caravan supports and the aluminum Peggy Peg screw pegs of 31 cm. This can be a tough job for the cordless drill, especially in hard soils. That is why I consciously chose the 18-volt version with a hard torque of max 42 Nm compared to the 24 Nm for the 10.8-volt version. I am now working on an oak desk that will be put together with Kreg Join – pocket drilling. The Makita is a very pleasant tool for this. First drill the pocket and then fix it with the special screws. Switching between the drill and the screw bit is very fast. The batteries were ready to use right out of the box. I'm sure I made a good choice. I also look forward to the holiday with confidence. Am really happy with this Makita.
