According to our cable converter expert
The Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adapter allows you to connect your MacBook or iMac to a wired network. Useful when, for example, you have limited or no access to wireless internet, or when you want to transfer data quickly. This adapter supports 10/100/1000BASE-T networks.
Note: not suitable for MacBook models with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) connectors. This is an original Apple accessory.

I use my laptop in different locations, one of which provides internet through an internet cable. Didn't think of that when buying a Macbook Air. I googled a bit and soon found that there were cables available to solve this problem. The gigabit to ethernet adapter is the perfect solution for me. You connect it to the specially provided Thunderbolt input in the MacBook and to your internet cable, that's it. Very user-friendly, the speed of the internet does not suffer and it also looks simple, no extra bells or whistles. If I had to list one flaw I would perhaps rather criticize the length of the adapter - it certainly doesn't take up much space but is a good 12 centimeters long, maybe this can be adjusted in the future. All in all, definitely recommended for people who still use an internet cable.

I live in a flat & although fiber optic is provided, wireless internet not really fast. I did a simple comparison test, and was really surprised at the big difference: a factor of 100+ in download speed. Very happy with it :).
