Pros and cons

According to our IP camera expert

  • Use the camera's app to keep an eye on your home from anywhere in the world.
  • Due to the low resolution, the images recorded by this camera are less sharp than those recorded by cameras with an HD ready resolution.
  • The camera doesn't have an SD card slot to store images directly on the camera.

During the day the camera works very well, very clear image! Since the camera is currently hanging in front of a window to film outside, I can't use the night mode, then you won't see anything because of the reflection of the infrared in the window. Without the night mode, the night image is not good: many stripes and sometimes the image jumps. If the camera is used to film, for example, the living room, the night mode works very well in the dark, very clear image (black and white). Unfortunately, the automatic day/night switching does not work well. With me it just went into night mode with daylight. Perhaps there will be an update for this. The camera also has a built-in microphone, but there is a lot of noise on the transmitted signal. Since I don't really need the sound either, I turned off the microphone in the settings. Nice is that it uses the cloud of D-Link, people without knowledge of port forwarding etc. can view and manage the camera outside the home. The image is small on the D-Link website, it would be nice if you could change the size. The app for Android is doing very well. You can set many things via the web interface of the camera. For example, you can have the camera detect movement on a time schedule and, in the event of movement, even have the images (photos) forwarded to an FTP server or sent to you via email. That being said, it is a very nice camera for the money and there may well be a second or more!

Great security camera for day and night.

  • connect wirelessly
  • easy installation
  • movable
Received the camera on time and the installation went with a small problem. The latest version of the installation software was yet to be installed. After downloading, the installation went smoothly. The camera meets the requirements. Good picture and sound (not necessary) during the day and at night. Being able to place the camera wirelessly is a big advantage. You still have a power wire that you have to take into account.

Great (Wi-Fi) network camera for a good price!

  • Excellent image for this camera resolution.
  • Both microphone and speaker are built into the camera.
  • Small and simple.
  • Included CD application on the PC, did not see the camera on my network.
I was looking for an extra camera for the front door. I have already installed 3 cameras from other brands (ACTI, FOSCAM) in and around my house that work fine in combination with my Synology 409+ NAS. This D-link is also connected to the NAS and gives a good image at the front door despite its lower resolution. The colors are great during the day! As soon as it gets darker, the infrared LEDs will do their job nicely. I installed the camera myself without the installation program that came with the camera. Somehow that program couldn't find the camera on my network. Since I have quite a bit of network knowledge, I was able to set the camera to my own liking using the web interface. As I mentioned, I use the camera in combination with my NAS. So I can view the camera anywhere via the laptop, iPad or iPhone. I don't do this using the D-link iphone app because it unfortunately doesn't work properly. I use the Synology app (DS camera) or applications like FoscamPro or IP Cam Viewer. These apps can display the camera in a stable manner. The camera also contains a speaker and a microphone. Through the mentioned IP Cam Viewer app I can listen to what is being said at the door. You can also talk back through the D-link app. But as I said, unfortunately this app doesn't work that well. You can also use the camera for your own website, for example. The camera also has a snapshot option. This allows you to place a link on your website so that you can display a current photo taken by your camera. For example, nice if you have a baby in the playpen and you want to show it to the family. If I compare this camera with my other cameras from ACTI and Foscam, I can report that the D-link gives a better image quality than the Foscam. I cannot compare the ACTI camera with this camera, because it is an outdoor camera and also in HD quality. My conclusion of this camera is as follows. Are you looking for a nice camera that you want to use for security purposes, websites or to experiment with, then this is a nice camera with which you can get by. For me, the camera is perfectly suited for what I wanted to do with it and that is front door security. every time the door opens, or someone is standing in front of the window, the NAS records this and I can therefore see exactly whether there are (un)desired people at the door. Good luck choosing! ;-)
