With these tips, you can solve problems with Bluetooth. It's possible that some work, and other don't, so try them all.

  • Tip 1: test the Bluetooth with a different device.
  • Tip 2: perform a soft reset.
  • Tip 3: update your smartphone.
  • Tip 4: perform a hard reset.

Tip 1: test the Bluetooth with a different device

Xiaomi Bluetooth doesn't work

It's possible that your phone is still working, but the device you want to connect to no longer works. Perform the following steps to make sure that the other Bluetooth device isn't the cause of the problem.

  1. Switch off Bluetooth on your own smartphone.
  2. Get another phone with Bluetooth. For example, use your old smartphone or someone else's device.
  3. Turn on the Bluetooth on this other phone.
  4. Try to connect to the same Bluetooth device that didn't connect to your own smartphone. Are you unable to make a Bluetooth connection again? That means the Bluetooth device is probably broken. If you're able to connect, try the tips below.

Tip 2: perform a soft reset

It might help to perform a soft reset on your device. That's the same as a restart. Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the standby button.
  2. Release the button when the device turns off. This happens after about 10 seconds.
  3. Turn the device back on by pressing and holding the standby button.

Sometimes, a function doesn't work because your phone doesn't have the latest software. Follow these steps to update your device.

  1. Make sure your phone is at least charged to 60%. If it's not, charge the smartphone.
  2. Check if your smartphone is still connected to WiFi.
  3. Go to 'Settings'. That's the icon with the gearwheel.
  4. Scroll down and choose 'About this phone'.
  5. Tap on the 'MIUI version' tile. You can find this tile at the top right of your screen. The device will now check if there's an available update.
  6. Is there an update available? Tap 'Download update'.
  7. Is the download complete? Tap 'Restart now'.

With a hard reset, you revert your device to factory settings. This erases all your data, so try the other tips first. To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:

  1. Make a backup of your data. If you don't, you'll lose all your apps, files, and photos.
  2. Check if the battery is at least 60% charged or connect it to the charger.
  3. Tap the gearwheel icon to go to 'Settings'.
  4. Choose 'About this phone'.
  5. Tap 'Factory settings'.
  6. Then, tap the 'Delete all data' button at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Enter your PIN code and confirm your choice.
  8. A pop-up will appear. Wait 10 seconds, then tap 'Next'.
  9. On the next pop-up, wait 10 seconds again and tap 'OK'. Your device will now restart.
