The Bastard Classic Small + The Bastard Cover Small

provided; we are just the two of us. I bought this bbq purely for holidays. Have been using a Kamado Joe Classic at home for years and then it becomes difficult to settle for a piece of tin on holiday. Chose the Bastard because it is very complete and beautifully finished. Bastard has looked closely at Kamado Joe's innovations over the past few years and has slowly grown from a 13 in a dozen Kamado to the sub-top (my opinion) and has earned its place there.

This Bastard Small was very small when unpacked and for use at home I would certainly have opted for something larger (and I did), but for a BBQ that you want to be able to take with you in the trunk, this is a great size. Is neatly put together, including a good stainless steel grid, platesetter and deflector stone. I do miss the ash drawer, which makes interim cleaning a bit more difficult.

The grid diameter is so small that I have to use other skewers because my usual skewers are too long, at the same time you can keep it at the right temperature and there is enough space for a beer can chicken, pulled pork or a nice set of MOINK balls. You will have to halve a rack of ribs to fit it.

The charcoal consumption is nice and low, you can only use a little, and you can also cook your meat for several hours with this small amount of charcoal without having to refill. So nice attorney on it, Meater(c) in it and go for a nice pulled pork. Outside the holidays, it also gets a nice spot in the outdoor kitchen, easy for a quick burger or two.

Would I buy it again? For this purpose and with this car (sedan) yes, if I had a slightly larger car or if I would use it primarily at home I would really go for a size larger. Would I go for a Bastard? If Kamado Joe were the same size, probably not, but Bastard is damn close and certainly not a bad choice. I just like red better :-)

It is quite heavy to carry. But using it is a party.

Direct and indirect grilling, even making pizzas and it all works.
