Sony 55-inch Bravia 8 OLED 4K (2024)

I was able to test this TV together with the new Soundbar from Sony. The combination is really ideal, because it fits perfectly on a TV cabinet without taking up much space. Unpacking the TV was easy. Unfortunately no setting. I'm writing this review now that I've had the TV for more than a week. But everything went wrong during the first setup. The combination with soundbar turned out not to be set up properly, so I spent a week fumbling around to get the sound right again. After resetting everything, I can finally enjoy this TV. When you start up you will see Google TV. Nice in itself, but not really conveniently set up. It takes some getting used to compared to the previous TV we have/had. I think the color splendor on TV is very beautiful! This also applies to contrast, it is really sharp! Anyway, when we started Netflix, for example, we immediately found the sound to be very disappointing. Especially with Disney TV. In retrospect, this was a misconfiguration of the TV, but this is partly caused by the short instructions for use. This is also not so clear on the website.
The sound of the TV is ok, but not great. Sounds cool to hear voices coming out of the screen instead of underneath. This is unique at Sony. So the image is beautiful. Although sometimes it is noticeable that, for example, a face is not sharp. What is really disturbing is that the image sometimes stutters. And everything we've looked at so far. Sometimes, for example, with an animal that is running fast, a fraction of the tail remains visible while the image switches to another image. Sony really needs to update this, this is not possible with such an expensive TV!
OLED is very nice, the image reflects less than our current TV.
Sony Bravia app is useful. But could be better. Takes quite a while before it responds to TV. I think it takes some getting used to. You will also receive 2 remote controls. 1 old-fashioned with many buttons and 1 modern with the most useful buttons!

I would buy this TV, but with the soundbar included. Because this makes it one whole. However, the price is high compared to other TVs. Perhaps Sony will do something about this

The Sony K-55XR84 is a really great 4K TV with great image quality.

Image and Reflections
If you come from an old Sony LCD, you will immediately notice the difference with the deep blacks and sharpness. I was initially afraid of reflections because the TV is facing windows, but the brightness is so good that this is not a problem.

Sound
The sound is above expectations. My HiFi system is almost idle, because the TV itself already has excellent bass. You can use a soundbar for real deep bass, but that is often not even necessary. Music and dialogues sound clear, which makes films and series extra fun.

Ease of use
Apps such as Netflix and Disney+ work smoothly. It's super handy that you can see immediately on the home screen where you left off in your series. No more hassle with searching again. Want to switch to NPO Start? You can pick up the thread again in no time.

Settings and Eco-friendliness
The remote control makes quickly switching between settings easy. With a few clicks you can put the TV in an economical mode. There are also special options for gamers. HDMI 2.1 and low input lag make gaming smooth and fast.

Design
A small downside is the black border around the screen, which is not completely symmetrical. There is a little more black glass at the bottom, which looks a bit strange. Fortunately, you get used to it quickly, but it is a design choice that takes some getting used to.

Conclusion
If you are looking for a TV with top picture and sound, which is also energy efficient and gamer-friendly, then the Sony K-55XR84 is a great choice. I'm very happy with it!
