Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Nintendo Switch

DK Tropical Freeze is the best 2D platformer ever made. The levels are perfectly put together, both visually and in terms of gameplay. It's almost always your own fault if you finish DK and it's very satisfying to run/jump/throw/drive/fly/swim through a level perfectly. One of the better games on the Switch, just maybe not worth the price if you've already played the Wii U version. For me this was my first experience so I didn't experience the expensive rerelease as a problem. Must play if you have a Switch!

What a cool platformer this is!!

The challenge starts pretty quickly in the game, actually already in the first world. Levels get trickier and you'll really need to make use of the different abilities of your sidekicks Diddy, Dixie and Cranky Kong. The game design is fair, so you won't lose lives in a silly way, but it comes down to your own skill and getting better. You will definitely notice that after a while you get better at the challenges, something that in my opinion is the basis for a good game.

In each world there are 3 bonus levels and hidden items to unlock. 2 Bonus levels are found by finding secret exits, and the last one is by collecting the letters K-O-N-G in each level. This last bonus level is super challenging, because the platforms are just a bit more challenging and there are no save points to help you.

The game is the same as the WiiU version, with the exception of slightly polished graphics and the addition of Funky Mode. In Funky mode you play with Funky Kong. He has some extra abilities and more hearts, which makes the game a bit easier. Plus, he's cool, with his surfboard and sunglasses. This mode is fun to play through the game again in a different way, or a good introduction if you find the classic mode just a bit too difficult.
