Pros and cons

According to our camera lens expert

  • The lens has a Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens element, to prevent lens errors like color aberration.
  • The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures a high AF speed, with a manual focus control.
  • The optical image stabilization corrects unintended movements, and gives you an advantage of no less than 4 stops.
  • The closer the lens is to the subject, the less effective the image stabilization is.
  • Due to the weight of 725g, the lens may feel quite heavy.

Description

The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro lens for Canon SLR cameras is suitable for macro, portrait, and nature photography. The lens has SLD lens elements, which prevents chromatic aberrations. This ensures a high sharpness, natural colors, and optimal contrast. In addition, the HSM motor provides a super fast autofocus which you can manually use for precise focus as well. This allows you to accurately photograph fast-moving subjects like a butterfly. The lens also prevents shocks and movements thanks to the built-in image stabilization so you get a 4-stop advantage.

I bought this lens because I didn't yet have a macro lens with a maximum aspect ratio of 1:1. The sharpness is excellent with this lens. For the price you pay for it, it is also bright. In addition, the lens can also be used as a telephoto and portrait lens with a fixed focal point. The image stabilization is a big advantage, because most macro lenses don't have that. It should be noted, however, that the image stabilization at the shortest setting distance (31 cm) is of no use and it is better to turn it off. It is advisable to use a tripod for close-up macro photography. That produces razor-sharp photos.

super macro lens

  • nice bokeh
  • razor-sharp photos
  • Easy to use
  • Unfortunately not water (rain) closed

The Sigma 105mm macro fully delivers on the promised quality. Focuses quickly, has a nice bokeh and does not suffer from distortion. The photos are razor sharp right into the corners. It is also compatible with the Sigma extenders, so with my 1.4x now a 170mm Makro lens. You sometimes lose 1 stop in light, but you hardly notice that in practice. The optical stabilization does not work completely silently, but does its job perfectly, I get 3 stops. According to the experts, the Sigma 105 mm Macro is just as good as the Canon 100 mm L, I agree with that. It only lacks the water resistance of the Canon L lenses. The Sigma 105mm macro is much cheaper. A real recommendation for those who want to do macro.

very good purchase!

  • does what is expected of a macro lens
  • very good image stabilization
  • razor sharp photo with the lens

- the many rave reviews made me buy this lens. - my experience with this lens is extremely super. - easy to use, fast AF, etc. - is indeed a must and this for an acceptable price! - I already know that I will spend many pleasant hours with this lens. - that it would not be waterproof does not bother me, all photo material remains inside in bad weather. - and yes, Coolblue does that well, that's for sure.
