Pros and cons

According to our motion sensor expert

  • You get notified when a door or window opens, even when you're not at home.
  • When you enter, you can let your lights turn on automatically.
  • Hue Secure sensors fit next to all windows and doors as long as you have a flat surface for the sensor.
  • You need a Hue Bridge for this sensor, so you can connect it to other Hue products.
  • The sensor works with replaceable CR2 batteries, these last 2 years after which you replace them.

Description

Secure a window or door with the Philips Hue Secure contact sensor. You can place the sensor directly next to your door or window. This way, it notices that a door is opening. You then receive a notification of the open door in your Philips Hue app. Connect the Philips Security sensors to your Hue smart lights and your lights turn on when a door or window is open. This way, you don't forget to close them and the light in the hallway is already on when you enter. You can place the magnet on both sides of the sensor, which makes it suitable for all windows and doors.

Easy sensor with unfortunately limited functionality

  • Easy to assemble
  • Easy to use with Hue app
  • Limited functionality
Sensor tested as an automatic switch in the hallway cupboard, looked at other functionality with the Hue app, but this was limited to push messages and switching lights.

Nice gadget

  • Potentially a lot of added value to Hue lighting
  • Solid hardware
  • Easy installation
  • Associated software is still in its infancy
Because the associated software still seems to be in its infancy, this is more of a nice gadget than a full-fledged alarm system. Instead of that you can make the lights flash automatically when the sensor is activated, you now only receive a push message that the sensor has been activated (in my case that the door has opened). You then have the option to flash the lights or turn them on fully. So a manual activity. Let's hope the thief doesn't break in while I'm swimming, but instead sit on the terrace with a cocktail... A small software adjustment. I look forward to the update.
