Good monitor with a few noticeable flaws.

  • Great design
  • Excellent build quality
  • Beautiful panel
  • Decent coil whine when the display is in standby or off.

Beautiful monitor with unfortunately a few quite noticeable flaws.

Starting with the positives. First, the panel is nothing short of amazing. Color reproduction (although I have not measured it) is very good and the brightness can be quite high. In principle, 165hz only offers a small (almost not noticeable) added value over 144hz, but is always a bonus, especially in combination with Freesync and G-Sync (compatible). I immediately set the monitor to 165hz, and did not suffer from IPS glow or ghosting and other practices. In addition, the backlight bleed is minimal and mine came without dead pixels. The adjustable foot is really great. Nicely high, works smoothly, can pivot, ideal. USB hub is also a great addition. You get cables and the whole rambam with it, fine. Oh, and the status LED can be turned off!

Enough positivity for today.

Well, before you can enjoy the nice Freesync you can first crank it in the settings. That takes a while, because the control buttons are on the right back of the screen and make the set-up adventure not exactly easy. So suppose you want to use it as a second monitor and put it on the left, so you will always be able to maneuver over it to operate or switch the monitor on and off. In addition, the layout of the buttons is completely illogical, you will accidentally turn off the monitor a number of times while trying to squeeze through the menus, and - don't think too long which button you had again, because the default time- out is set to five seconds, otherwise you can start again! The OSD is otherwise fine - no more, no less than that. Fortunately, most people (including me) really never touch the settings after the first time, so this is all quite forgivable.

We don't really have to start about the speakers. Something comes out that pretends to be sound, but that's about it. Turn off that bite, never use it, and forget they're in it because it's a pretty sad display.

The real downside is the really terrible coil whine when the panel is off. Both in standby (so no signal, but not pressed on the off button) and when you actually press it. The funny thing is that the coil whine disappears when the panel is on, yes, and when you remove the plug of course. The coil whine is such that you can still hear it whine about fifteen meters away. It's a high-pitched tone, so not everyone will hear it, and the advantage is that the tone causes hearing damage at such a rate that anyone who could hear it before won't be bothered by it in no time. Do you always turn off the power strip under your PC? Then you won't notice it too much. I solved it myself with a C13 to C14 cable with a switch in it. Power off, solved. At the same time, this solves the problem with the on-off button, because it is then simply attached to the cable that dangles under your monitor. When in use, click the switch, monitor whines for two seconds, panel turns on - no more problems, then monitor also off again via switch - ideal!

If you've read through all of this and think, well, those are things I can get over, then you won't be disappointed. The problems are fixable, or at worst, ignore them. If you have any doubts, look further, because there are plenty of comparable monitors in this price range.
