Millions of pixels individually produce color, light up, or turn off completely. As a result, you watch images with a strong contrast and many subtle color tones. For example, you can see every detail in shadows and black images are truly black. Thanks to the smart a9 Gen4 processor, the image is extra detailed and smooth. The HDMI 2.1 inputs support 4K images with 100Hz and different technologies that are useful for gamers. Clear image and super sharp

  • Narrow edges, nice design (from the front)
  • Clear sound for flat TV without a soundbar
  • Many apps available
  • Would have preferred chromecast in addition to AirPlay

I've had the opportunity to test this LG OLED TV for a few weeks and I'm quite impressed. I always find unpacking a TV tense, but this went quite smoothly and the TV was ready in no time. You can quickly go through the installation menu and you can immediately start watching TV.
As a first test, I watched channels such as animal planet, because there you often have those colorful images. And sure enough, that looked great. All colors jump out of the screen and it is super sharp! Magnificent.
We also regularly played games on the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch and I especially liked the Nintendo games to play on this TV because Mario games are often so colorful and this TV makes it extra special. The switch does not support 4K, but this TV straightens that out nicely. With the PS4, the image is of course much better and sharper in connection with the 4K support. I had been playing Resident Evil 7 on PS4 to test the dark colors and as I expected with OLED, black is really black. And what I also noticed is the contrast, even if you walk in the dark, I can see much better what is happening around me in the game, and that with the default settings! So that also helps while gaming, you can anticipate faster because you see much better. Everything is also well synchronized in terms of image, I did not suffer from stutters or delays during gaming.
Also the sound is very clear and loud enough around 10%. The sound fills the entire room here and you are quickly drawn into your game or movie. You don't need a sound bar if you're not used to that.
The AI can automatically adjust image and sound settings based on gaming or watching movies, you can also set this manually. This way the colors are always true to nature.
With us the TV is quite close to the window in the living room, so I was afraid of reflections, but this is not the case with us fortunately. When the TV is off, we do see some of the living room reflecting off the screen, but so does our current TV.
I really think the magic remote remote control is a worthy addition from LG. It's like a Wii remote that you can point at the TV to move a cursor. This way you can go through the menu much faster with all apps on this smart TV, such as YouTube, Netflix and NLziet, and everything works very smoothly. The apps launch quickly and there is so much more to download. My husband especially likes the voice control. He doesn't like typing using a remote, so this saves him time and effort.
AirPlay 2 is built-in, which is useful for iPhone users. This way you can directly share the screen on the TV. Still, I would have preferred a built-in chromecast, because it can be used on different phones, where AirPlay is only intended for Apple users. Fortunately, there are enough HDMI ports to connect a chromecast if necessary.
We are really positively surprised by this TV. It really felt like the first time I put my lenses in and could see everything clearly. A whole world opened up for me and this TV did that for me again.

The LG OLED55C16LA: first-class, but just not perfect.

  • Strong contrast, near perfect black levels
  • Vivid colors
  • 120 Hz, VRR, ALLM
  • webOS does not belong in 2021

After two weeks of testing the LG OLED55C16LA, I think that this television is highly recommended for anyone who loves fine image quality and sharp contrast, but also wants to experience the best possible gaming experience.

Image quality

Coming from another TV that already has a very good picture quality, there is a clear difference to note. Text is clearly legible and sharp, black is really black, so that there also seems to be an endless contrast. A consequence of the better contrast is that the colors also come out better. Content in 4K with HDR in particular receives a significant leap forward in terms of image quality: everything is razor-sharp, clear, colorful and full of contrast.
Another important point is the motion smoothing and the motion interpolation of the C1. While my previous TV clearly started to show smearing at higher refresh rates, that is not the case with the C1 at all. It is also possible to change the motion interpolation with gradations or even switch it off completely, a handy function for film lovers who prefer not to see the 'soap opera effect'.

There is also a noticeable difference in viewing angles. The image immediately started to discolor with my previous TV if it was not looked straight at. The OLED technology used is a clear leap forward here: it is also possible to fully enjoy a full viewing experience from seats other than our sofa.
There is always the danger of burn-in with an OLED TV, but I suspect that shouldn't be a problem with normal use. A number of protection mechanisms are activated by default to ensure that one image is never visible for too long, which greatly reduces the risk of burn-in.

gaming

But the aspect where the LG C1 can best show off is the wide range of gaming functions with which the TV is equipped. The LG C1 comes with no less than 3 HDMI 2.1 ports, a true luxury for every game lover who has managed to buy a new console or new graphics card. This also means that the LG C1 can use features such as 120hz mode, as well as VRR support and HDR support without any problem. It may seem like a detail, but it's especially helpful not to have to change HDMI cables over and over when playing on a different console. To my knowledge there are currently no TVs on the market that can approach this combination of strong image quality and almost all possible gaming functions. The only thing missing at the moment is Dolby Vision.

Ease of Use and Design

Like any smart TV, the C1 has its own operating system, in this case webOS. This is, in my opinion, the biggest flaw of this TV. The speed of webOS is below par for a television in the price range of the C1. The OS does what it's supposed to do, but it slows down frequently, sometimes stutters, and is generally not very user-friendly. The settings menus are also not always clear and not always easily accessible. It will eventually work out, but perhaps it would be better if LG switched to a more accessible UI or switch to a more 'standard' Android TV OS. Many apps are also missing from the LG app store.

Another flaw is the 'magic remote' that comes with the TV, which feels quite cheap and is made of glossy plastic that starts to scratch almost immediately.

Despite those criticisms, the C1 remains an easy-to-use television with a beautiful design. One of the things I liked most about the design is the fact that when the included support foot is used, all cables are immediately hidden behind the TV. That saved me a lot of cable management, without making our living space suddenly look cluttered. Our version was also in a beautiful silver, a timeless color that can easily find a place in almost any interior.

But these complaints are anything but deal-breakers, rather it's the small imperfections that keep me from giving this TV a perfect score. That's why I give this TV a solid 9/10: highly recommended for anyone who wants a TV with top-in-class picture quality and top-in-class gaming features. Just not perfect.

LG remains the king in OLED

  • A real game TV that works well with the PS5
  • AirPlay
  • AI
  • Known issue with OLED, watch out for burn-in

In 2018 I had bought my first OLED TV from the LG brand, which was the C7.
I was already very satisfied with that, but I missed the support of HDMI 2.1 and VRR, so the power of the PS5 did not fully come into its own.
In addition, I did have a Dolby Atmos set-up, but the signal did not come through to the amplifier because there was no HDMI 2.1 on my previous TV, so now it does. win win
The C1 from LG again has a beautiful image and has become a bit better than the C7.
The screen of this model is also a bit brighter, which is always a positive thing.
Nice additions to this TV, which I didn't have before, are AirPlay and the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to improve sound and picture quality and many more bells and whistles
The remote now also has a button for Disney+ with which the 3 largest streaming services are now 1 button away for you to enjoy
I am very satisfied with this new OLED TV from LG and would therefore recommend this TV for anyone who wants OLED and especially for gamers
