WD Elements Desktop 10TB

Hi, A disclaimer in advance: this review has nothing to do with my procrastination of to do's that are more important than writing this review. Here we go. In recent years I have collected a shtload (pardon my french) of documents. I'll be honest, I'm a digital hoarder/collector. Admitting is the first step. Even my msn conversations I once copied to txt and even those I still have. Notes from my law studies, sound clips for my mp3, pixel-countable photos, you name it. Previously I had 2 separate 1 Tb hard drives plus my laptop contents. They are all full now. That's why I bought the 10 TB. It is quite a light box, silent (for now), and, as usual, easy to connect. If you want to transfer a large stream of files, in my case, it doesn't mean it will be much faster (read: 19 hours) because the speed also depends on the laptop port you use. Otherwise very happy with the extra space ;) .

WD just puts in what they have on hand. Have several already, and almost every time there is a different type of drive in them. This is a 7200 rpm drive and it makes a continuous noise when it is on, even when it is not used intensively. With intensive use, it also gets very hot, up to 60 degrees, which is still within the specs, but it's hot enough. In the absence of active cooling, the heat also lingers for a long time. I built the drive in a case with active cooling so I can't hear it and the temperature isn't an issue now. But I had sent it back for use as a separate disk on a desk.

Device is very friendly to connect. Even a non-IT expert can store data.
