Pros and cons

According to our power plug expert

  • Operate the smart plug via the Apple HomeKit App and Homey.
  • See at a glance what your energy consumption is, thanks to the different colors.
  • Turn an electrical device on or off using an app on your smartphone or tablet.
  • To remotely control the smart plug using the Fibaro app, you need the Fibaro gateway or Homey.

Description

With the Fibaro Wall Plug Type E HomeKit, you can see exactly what your energy consumption is. Besides being compatible with Fibaro's own system, this connector also works with Apple HomeKit. The ring on the front of the (smart) connector shows the power consumption of the connected device using different colors. Insert the connector into the socket and insert the connector of the device into this plug. If you own the Fibaro gateway or Apple HomeKit, you can see the power consumption on your smartphone or tablet. The app sends you a notification when the device isn't receiving power or when it's overloaded.

No Homekit and Z-wave as mentioned in the description

  • Compact
  • Consumption measurement
  • Unstable WiFi connection

Contrary to what is stated in the description for the Apple HomeKit version: "The Fibaro Wall Plug communicates via the Z-Wave (plus) protocol" it only works with HomeKit, so only via your normal WiFi and not via Z-Wave . Can not (yet) be used in combination with Fibaro HCL. With only a HomeKit connection you are quite limited in options at the moment. I should have looked at the Fibaro website first where it clearly states that there are 2 types, 1 for z-wave and 1 for homekit and therefore no combination of both. Coolblue, maybe update the description? They also sometimes lost connection with my WiFi and you have to remove the plug from the socket and plug it in again to get a connection again. This is not very useful if the socket is in a hard-to-reach place.

expensive unreliable toys

  • looks flashy
  • price

Nice toys in the beginning, operate the devices via the app, create scenarios to control entire rooms at the same time. But after a week the first plug stopped responding. Unplugged and re-plugged, removed from app and re-added, nothing worked. Just a factory reset. After 2 weeks, the 2nd in line was now also unreachable, and had to be reset as well. In summary: broken firmware on a product that could be fun, and has a hefty price tag. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying additional plugs within the first week, so I now have 5 plugs that are potential trash cans

Hardware to be improved by the manufacturer.

  • compact
  • shifts fast
  • installation did not go smoothly

The plug does what it promises, but the software and app urgently need improvement. The software update has crashed.
