For a dime on the first rank

  • fast lens
  • beautiful bokeh (background blur quality)
  • fairly fast focus
  • no hem (you can use your feet for it)

This lens has everything you can expect from it. There are already a lot of reviews about this lens online and they all agree: this lens is great.

The nifty fifty, as it is also called, is a fast lens. This means that it can still take great photos in very poor light at a fast shutter speed and a low ISO. The advantage of this is that you don't have to shoot with a flash, so you can take pictures unobtrusively, often resulting in better pictures.

The only drawback I have experienced with this lens is that it is a prime lens. This means that you cannot zoom with it. Is this bad? No actually not. You can walk back and forth to zoom in or out. However, keep this in mind if you want to purchase this lens!

For the DX-DSLRs, you can opt for a 35mm lens, which is roughly equivalent to a 52mm lens on an FX DSLR, or a 50mm lens, which is roughly equivalent to an 85mm lens on an FX DSLR.

The 50mm lens is better suited for portrait photos. If you want to take a lot of portrait photos, this is the better lens. The 35mm can also take portrait photos, but up close, distortion occurs.

In addition, the biggest plus of this lens compared to the 35mm and actually most lenses is that the bokeh (the quality of the blurred background) is of exceptionally high quality. It is buttery smooth and is a real pleasure to the eye. I noticed with the 35mm lens from Nikon that it scored less especially on bokeh.

Another disadvantage is that you sometimes suffer from 'hunting', the lens can then find poor focus because the light is too bad. This is more often the case when you have the AF-light assist mode turned off on your DSLR. Fortunately, you can manually adjust the focus by turning the ring, even if it is on automatic focus. I've only experienced this in very poor lighting conditions.

All in all I can only agree with all the reviews online. This lens is great, especially for this money. You can only enjoy this. I don't have another lens on my camera anymore!

Excellent Nikon product

  • Quality photos
  • portrait photography
  • Price quality
  • I'm looking for a while..........

Taking great pictures with this little giant, portrait photography becomes a lot of fun this way. Calculate the crop factor of your camera (if you don't have a full frame) since this is a full frame 50mm lens (Google "calculate crop factor" for that) you also want to do more ordinary street and general photography with this light-sensitive lens on you with an APS- C sensor equipped camera? then consider his other 35mm relative, of course also found in this shop. Have fun with your choice.

It's a racy workhorse of a lens

  • well built
  • Excellent optics
  • Very fast autofocus
  • Non

I have purchased this lens mainly for shooting portraits, but use it for all kind of photography since.
It is very good for indoor as well as outdoor shooting. s
treet photography, nature, landscapes, architecture - it can do anything you need.
The image quality of the lens is outstanding, it gives you very sharp focus and very smooth and creamy bokeh.

Auto-focus is very fast and accurate, as a matter of fact, this lens focuses much faster than my kit lens that came with camera, and I would never call the kit a slugger. This one is just faster.
1.8 aperture allows you to make photos even in poor light conditions without using a flash and the need to go to high ISOs, keeping your noise level low.
Build quality is very good, the lens is made if plastic, so it's very light, but it's a high quality plastic, so it's also sturdy and should last for years.

In my eyes this lens has no cons. I might speculate about the leak of weather sealing, but since my camera is not weather sealed either, i will keep this complaint for another review.
To put it short- this is the best lens your little money can buy, and this is absolutely a must, if you like to think seriously about evolving in your photography.
