5 tips if your freezer isn't working proprely

It's annoying if you freezer isn't freezing properly. Luckily, we have some tips for you to improve the freeze quality of your freezer. Read them on this page.

Improve the freeze quality in 5 steps

Improve the freeze quality

Try the 5 tips below if your freezer isn't freezing properly.

  • Step 1. Set the right temperature.
  • Step 2. Don't open the door too often.
  • Step 3. Check the ambient temperature.
  • Step 4. Defrost the freezer.
  • Step 5. Clean the condenser.

Step 1: set the right temperature

Set the right temperature

The ideal temperature of a freezer is -18°C. At this temperature, your groceries freeze properly and you don't spend too much money on energy costs.

Step 2: don't open the door too often

Open door

As soon as you open the freezer door, the appliance loses cold air and hot air goes in. That's why you shouldn't open the door too often or too long, so your groceries stay frozen.

Step 3: check the ambient temperature

Ambient temperature

Make sure to check the ambient temperature of the space you place your freezer in. If it's colder or warmer than the freezer can handle, it'll break and your groceries will go bad. You also can't place the appliance in the sun or next to a heat source, such as a radiator. You can find the minimum and maximum ambient temperature in the manual.

Step 4: defrost the freezer

Defrost

Do you have a freezer with Low Frost or without anti-ice buildup? When there's too much ice in the freezer compartment, the appliance doesn't freeze as easily. You'll also pay more energy costs. That's why it's important to ask yourself when you've defrosted the freezer last. A freezer with Low Frost has to be defrosted about twice a year. If you have one without anti-ice buildup, that's 6 times a year.

Step 5: clean the condenser

Clean the condenser

If your freezer doesn't have a covered condenser, it'll collect dust after a while. This makes it more difficult for the appliance to lose heat and it won't freeze as easily. That's why you should clean the condenser regularly. Turn off the freezer for this and clean everything with a soft brush or cloth. Make sure the freezer has 5cm of ventilation space on the back and sides.
