Which TV do you need to optimally watch sports?

These days, you don't have to be located in the stadium to fully experience a sports competition. With the right television, each moment of action is depicted perfectly sharp and smooth. On this page, I'll explain which specification are best for a sports TV.

A television for the soccer World Championship

To enjoy the World Championship optimally, there are a few specifications to keep in mind.

  • Refresh rate: A refresh rate of 100Hz provides smoother images.
  • Viewing angle: A good or excellent viewing angle makes sure everyone sees the image on the TV well, even from the side.
  • Size: On a larger TV, you see the details better with multiple people, like the squad numbers of soccer players.
  • Resolution: To see details well, we recommend a TV with at least a $K resolution, in combination with an HDMI 2.1 cable.

High refresh rate

High refresh rate of 100Hz for a TV for sports

For most sports, fast actions make the difference between a win and a loss. Think of a feint of a soccer player, or the service of a tennis player. That's why it's important to have a 100Hz television. A TV with a 100Hz refresh rate shows 100 images, or frames, per second. This way, every action look smooth. As a result, you'll see exactly where the ball is during a soccer match.

A wide viewing angle

Wide viewing angle to watch sports

If you watch sports a lot, we recommend a television with a good or excellent viewing angle. The viewing angle of a television determines how far on the side of the television you can sit before the image quality goes down. When you watch an exciting soccer match with a group of friends, you want everybody to see the same image quality. In that case, it's useful to have a television with a wide viewing angle.

Size

Inch size of your TV

On a large screen, details such as as football or the players' shirt names can be seen much more clearly. The ideal sports TV is at least 55 inches in size, but don't forget to leave enough distance between you and the TV. When you're sitting too close, you lose overview, causing you to have to closely track each movement with your eyes. This doesn't let you enjoy the game in a relaxed manner. That's why you should choose a smaller size if there's only limited viewing distance.

High resolution

4K resolution

To see all the details of a sports match well, it's important to have a high resolution. Choose a television with at least a 4K resolution. With an HDMI 2.1 cable, you can watch 4K images with a refresh rate of 100Hz. At the moment, most TV channels don't broadcast 4K images, but there are plans to do so. Most modern TVs have a processor that transforms lesser quality broadcasts, like Full HD, into 4K. If you want a bit extra, choose 8K.

A soundbar for a richer sound

TV with soundbar

Do you want to experience the look and sound of the stadium experience? Choose a soundbar for your TV. A soundbar makes the commentary more clear, and it produces a richer sound than your TV speakers, thanks to the bass. If you want a bit more, you can choose a soundbar with a subwoofer or even extra speakers. This way, you'll get a surround setup and you'll hear the audience of a match all around you, like you're really there.
