How do you take accurate measurements on Apple Watch?
Get started with accurate measurements on the Apple Watch
There are a couple of steps you can take to make the Apple Watch measurements even more accurate.
- Update your personal health information.
- Don't wear the Apple Watch too tight or too loose
- Turn on Wrist Detection
- Select the right workout
- Calibrate your Apple Watch
Tip 1: update your personal information
To measure things like the number of burned calories, the Apple Watch need some information. This information includes your gender, age, length, and weight. If you want to keep these measurements accurate, it's important to keep your information up to date. You can edit your information in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Go to My Watch in the app and tap Health.
- Go to Health Profile and tap Edit.
- Update the information.
Tip 2: wear your Apple Watch the right way
The Apple Watch provides the most accurate measurements when you wear it correctly. The sensors on the Apple Watch only work if you wear the watch case of the Apple Watch on top of your wrist. The case has to touch your skin, but it shouldn't be too tight or too loose. There has to be enough space between the watch strap and your wrist for your skin to breath. If you wear your Apple Watch correctly, the measurements become more accurate.
Tip 3: turn on wear detection
Do you want to accurately track how much you move in a day? Make sure you turn on Wrist Detection on your Apple Watch. Wrist Detection ensures that the Apple Watch sends you reminder to stand. It also tracks your progress and performs heart rate measurements in the background. You can turn on Wrist Detection via the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Go to My Watch in the app and tap Passcode.
- Here, you can turn on Wrist Detection.
Tip 4: choose the right workout
This tip might be obvious, but it's important. Always choose the workout in the Workout app that most accurately matches your training. Are you going to run a marathon on the treadmill in the gym? Select the Indoor Run workout, not the Outdoor Run workout. If you're going to swim laps in the pool, select Pool, not Open Water. If you're doing a workout that's not listed in the options, choose Other. If you want to keep measuring your heart rate during your workout, you have to turn off Low Power Mode.
Tip 5: calibrate the Apple Watch
Is 'accurate' not accurate enough for you? In that case, it's a good idea to calibrate your Apple Watch. When you calibrate your Apple Watch, your distance, pace, and calories burned will be measured even more accurately.
Heart rate measurements less accurate due to tattoos
A tattoo under a heart rate monitor can reduce the effectiveness of an optical heart rate monitor. The light used by the heart rate monitor is blocked by the ink and the pattern. As a result, you can get a less accurate heart rate measurement
