How do you ensure that your coffee machine doesn't leak water?

Your coffee machine leaks water and you want to solve this problem. Your coffee machine can leak in 4 ways. For example, water is leaking in the drip tray, brown or clear water leaks from underneath the machine, or water leaks from behind the coffee outlet. We'll provide you a solution for each problem.

Fix 4 types of leakage

Fix 4 types of leakage

We distinguish the 4 ways your coffee machine can leak. We'll explain what you can do to stop the leaking for each way.

  • Water leaks from the drip tray.
  • Brownish water is coming from underneath the machine.
  • Clear water is coming from underneath the machine.
  • Water with coffee particles is leaking from behind the coffee outlet.

Water is leaking from the drip tray

Water is leaking from the drip tray

Water in the drip tray is normal. There will always be water in the drip tray, even if you don't see it. When the brew group heats up, water is emitted within the machine. This water goes straight into the drip tray without you seeing it. After you prepare a cup of coffee, the machine cleans itself. The machine rinses the pipes and this water also goes into the drip tray. If it's necessary, you can also collect this water by placing a cup under the coffee outlet.

If there's brownish water coming from underneath the machine, go through the following steps to solve the leakage:

  1. remove the drip tray from the machine, empty it in the sink, rinse it clean, and place the drip tray back into the machine.
  2. check if the coffee machine is standing on a straight surface. Is it slightly tilted? The drip tray may overflow.
  3. properly rinse the brew group clean under the faucet. It's important to clean the brew group every week to prevent leakage.

If there's clear water coming from underneath the machine, it often means the water tank isn't connected properly. Check if the water tank is placed correctly. Press the water tank firmly, so it really connects. Doesn't this solve the problem? Have your coffee machine repaired.

If water is coming from behind the coffee outlet, it's likely that the coffee spout isn't placed correctly. To fix this, push the coffee spout towards the machine. The coffee spout is the part on the front of the machine where the coffee comes out. Is the coffee spout on your model not detachable? You'll have to have your coffee machine repaired.
