First impression of the Samsung QN900B
When I first see the QN900B, it's clear to me right away why this is the flagship of the 2022 series by Samsung. The large screen barely has a bezel and it's very bright, which is why it really draws my attention right away. The side of the TV also looks very special with the silver finish. I sit down in front of the TV and start a nature documentary.
Razor-sharp details thanks to the 8K resolution
Thanks to the 8K resolution, the QN900B has 4 times as many pixels as a 4K television. Because not much 8K entertainment is available yet, the TV also has a smart 8K upscaler. The powerful processor converts the images of lesser quality to 8K. With the 4K images, I notice that the small details really come out better. I can see all the details on the wings of a butterfly or the nerves on a leaf, for example.
High brightness and deep black levels
The QN900B has a peak brightness of no less than 4000 nits. This makes bright parts of the image really bright. The Mini-LED local dimming ensures that the dark parts of the image are really dark or even deep black. These 2 specifications make the contrast of the QN900B very strong. Green leaves with white flowers are displayed brighter and with more details, while the black background is really dark. This makes images look very realistic.
Wide viewing angle, sometimes reflections from bright lights
Samsung improves the viewing angle of the QN900B with the so-called Ultra Viewing Angle. When I watch TV at an angle, I notice that the TV indeed has a wide viewing angle. The contrast and color representation remain realistic. Thanks to the anti-glare screen, I barely see annoying reflections on the screen. When bright lights are pointed at the screen, this anti-reflection layer isn't very convenient. The light spreads over the screen and creates a rainbow effect in this case. But, you'll barely experience this with regular lighting.
Sleek design with the Slim One Connect Box
The QN900B has an eye-catching design. The TV is just 15mm thick and barely has a bezel around the screen thanks to the Infinity Screen design. As a result, I only see screen when I sit right in front of the TV. The Slim One Connect Box completes the sleek design. You can connect all your peripherals to this box, while you'll only have one transparent cable going from the box to your TV. That way, you won't have a bundle of cables hanging behind the TV.
Powerful sound that follows the motions in the image
The sound of the QN900B is very spatial thanks to Object Tracking Sound Pro. This technique ensures that the sound moves along with the motions on the screen. Because the screen has speakers on the top, the sides, and the bottom, this works really well. For example, when a plane flies across the screen from left to right, the sound travels the same way. The QN900B has 6 regular speakers, 4 speakers aimed upwards, and 2 subwoofers. Thanks to this, the audio sounds spatial, rich, and powerful, which makes exciting action movies are very immersive for example
Organized smart platform
The smart platform by Samsung is different than it used to be. Instead of a row of tiles on the bottom of the screen, the Smart Hub is now screen-filling. I find an organized menu with available apps and suggestions for movies and series. Popular apps like YouTube, Netflix, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video have already been installed on the TV. I notice that the menu responds very quickly, which allows me to start a movie on Netflix in no time.
Energy-efficient, pleasant remote
Also this year, the Neo QLED televisions have the SolarCell One Remote. This remote is a light remote with a simple design that's comfortable to hold. I only has a few buttons, but it has all the buttons I need. Via a number of shortcuts, I start an app like Disney+ or Netflix with a push of a button. The remote has a solar panel on the back. This allows me to charge the remote via sunlight or artificial light. Replacing batteries is a thing of the past thanks to this.
Conclusion
The Samsung QN900B is one of the greatest models in terms of Neo QLED televisions. With this TV, you can enjoy life-like, detailed images with a noteworthy brightness thanks to the 8K resolution and Mini-LED local dimming. The audio is good too, and sounds rich, spatial, and realistic. Unfortunately, there's not much 8K entertainment available yet. But luckily, the processor enhances 4K images.
