Everything on Philips Wake Up Lights
What's a Wake-up Light?
A lot of alarm clocks use sound to let you know it's time to get up. The name of the Wake-up Light already says it all, it uses light to wake you up. The Wake-up Light simulates a natural sunrise by gradually increasing the brightness of the light. This way, you'll get the chance to wake up calmly and start your day energetically.
What happens to your body?
With readings of brain activity, Philips provided insight into the effects of waking up gradually. Because the light in the bedroom increases slowly, your brain receives signals that it's time to wake up. The level of the hormone 'cortisol' increases and makes you more alert. When you wake up in a dark room, this hormone stays inactive. This causes you to wake up tired sometimes.
The alarm clock also functions as a night light. Do you need to go to the toilet? Simply tap the lamp to turn it on. It'll automatically give a dark red light, so this hormone won't be produced and you won't fully wake up.
Extra functions of the Wake-up Light
-
Night light
Depending on the model you choose, there are extra functionalities:
Sunset You can set it up to simulate a natural sunset in your bedroom at night. This reduces the transition from light to dark, which helps you to relax.
Charging option Some models have the option to charge your phone via the USB port on the back. This saves another connector on your nightstand.
Reading lamp If you want to read for a bit before you go to sleep at night, you can easily adjust the desired light intensity. This means you no longer need a night light.
Different models
Basic
The basic Wake-up Lights simulate the sunrise with 3 colors when you wake up. These models vary in the option to charge your phone, radio function, and the simulation of the sunset to easily fall asleep.
Extensive
The more extensive models have relaxation exercises to fall asleep easily and in a more relaxed way. These models also have a touchscreen and have more color variations for the sunrise simulation. I've tested these models and will tell you more about them in this review.
Connected
These models have everything that the basic and extensive alarm clocks have, but you can also connect them to an app on your phone. On this, you can easily set up the Wake-up Light, and you'll receive information about the bedroom conditions and how to improve them. Soon I'll test the newest model for you and I'll write an extensive review about it.
Somneo Sleep & Wake-up Light
The 'relax breathe' function helps you to relax. If you often lie in bed worrying before you go to sleep, this function is a solution for you. By breathing on the rhythm of the light pulses or the sound, you'll relax and fall asleep more easily.
Somneo Sleep & Wake-up Light connected
The Somneo connected has all the advantaged of the Somneo, but is connected to the SleepMapper app on your phone. In the app, you can easily set and adjust alarms, light themes, sounds, radio, or the light intensity. AmbiTrack The conditions in your bedroom can have a large effect on how you sleep. That's why models have been developed with an ambient sensor. This measures the temperature, humidity, and the noise and light level in the bedroom. You can see these results in the app, so you'll know what to improve right away.
Conclusion
If you want to wake up well-rested or if you have problems with falling asleep, the Philips Wake-up Light is something for you. Consider which options are important to you and see which model is most suitable for your needs.
