I made the switch from gas to induction after all the glowing stories about induction cooking. My gas hob was also used up after 20+ years. So perhaps many criticisms apply to induction in general rather than this particular hob. Below is an explanation per point.
Advantages:
- Beautiful, quick to clean.
- Operation is simple, but good enough except for the contrast. Select pan on pit, select position.
- It gets hot quickly, we have riess pans, high setting should not be used. But it's still fast enough.
- Because there is no gas burner under your pan, there is less air movement due to the combustion. This allows the extractor hood
a notch lower
- What a large plate! 5 pans on it and actually still space left
Cons:
- You can see the hot plates and the wires. Spots and looking at a certain angle. Not disturbing, see photo.
- Boil over protection, I know what it's supposed to do, but just now the plate was 25% full of water and it kept going....but ok
so does a gas plate
- Contrast difference can be seen, but only barely. It's 10 lines, so it won't matter. Stand is visible by means of a
number and you can slide higher/lower
- You can clearly notice the hob that it controls on/off. So set it to position 5, then you see water bubbling, then not for 3 seconds,
than 3 seconds. I find it special that this cannot be done otherwise with today's technology. It went well
- Local heat. Because you can occasionally see the wires, you know how the plate is connected, so where. I noticed that
the pans heat up where the wire sits on the plate. So if I have a skillet with melted butter, I see one part
bubbling and the other part not.
- Sound fan/pans. The fan of the cooling of the electronics starts working quickly, this can be clearly heard when the
extractor hood is off (e.g. when boiling water). When the extractor hood is on, you can hear it to a limited extent. Of course you can also hear gas
clearly. Depending on the pan and what is in it, the pans make ticking/buzzing noises, especially when you boil water and then
just before it boils.
We've only had it for 2 weeks so I'm experimenting with pans a bit to see if I notice a difference.
Before you buy one, I think it's good to look at reviews of other brands or there are similar experiences, maybe some things just belong to induction cooking. But even with the above drawbacks I would buy one again.
