Second Chance Samsung HW-S800B

Where many soundbars need a large housing for a powerful and clear sound, that is different with the Samsung HW-S800B. This ultra-thin soundbar, together with the included subwoofer, delivers high sound quality. I only find the display on the soundbar unclear.

Ultra slim sound bar
When unpacking the soundbar, you immediately notice the compact housing. Samsung calls this an ultra slim soundbar and it really is. It is barely 4 centimeters deep and I find that very cool to see. It also fits perfectly under the 55-inch television, which is about the same width. Connecting the bar is easy with the supplied power cable and HDMI cable.

Together with the included subwoofer, the soundbar delivers a great sound. I turn the subwoofer on full and the volume of the bar high and enjoy powerful tones and clear vocals. The 2 upward-facing speakers bring the sound to life and make it sound spacious. Especially with the right settings enabled, such as SpaceFit, I enjoy a fairly intense surround sound. A set of rear speakers would complete it for me, as the sound struggles to get behind me.

Adjusting settings complicated
There is no clear display on the soundbar, so some information is not completely clear. For example, I do not see how high the volume is and what the level of the subwoofer is. What I really like is that the soundbar reads out settings. When I press the cog on the remote, the bar reads which setting I am currently adjusting. Very fat!

It is a soundbar with good sound and a beautiful design. Due to the narrow model, the soundbar fits nicely under the TV and is hardly noticeable. The sub is in a corner and is not noticeable here. The sound of the soundbar is super clean. You can adjust the height/strength of the bass to your own preference. It is really great sound with both TV and radio. You can barely hear the boss while watching TV and he is pleasantly present during the music. It can be very loud and even then it is pure and has a nice sound. You can operate the soundbar via the smartthings app and set everything, and the transition from Bluetooth to TV is also smooth. The only downside is that if you do something via the remote control, you will not get clear text or numbers on the soundbar (such as volume, bass and sound mode).
