Which fridge or freezer fits in an IKEA kitchen?
Choose a built-in fridge or freezer for your IKEA kitchen
Not every built-in fridge or freezer fits in an IKEA kitchen. In order to choose the right model, you have to take the following into account:
- Choose a sliding door system
- What is the niche height?
- Do you have a METOD or FAKTUM kitchen?
- How do you want to organize your cabinet?
- Do you have a ventilating shelf?
Choose a sliding door system
Fridges and freezers can have 2 door systems, either a door-on-door system or a sliding door system. You can only place a model with a sliding door system in an IKEA kitchen. This system has 2 hinges.
What's the niche height?
A built-in fridge or freezer is built into a niche. The niche height is important, so you know which model fits in your IKEA kitchen. With a tape measure, you can measure the height from the bottom to the top of the niche.
Do you have a METOD or FAKTUM kitchen?
METOD kitchen
- Bought before 2 June 2014.
- The height of the front panel is 70, 90, 110, or 130cm.
- The cabinet is 125, 195, or 217cm high without the baseboard.
FAKTUM kitchen
- Purchased after 2 June 2014.
- The height of the front panel is 60, 80, 100, 120, or 140cm.
- The cabinet is 140, 200, 220, or 240cm high without the baseboard.
How do you want to organize the cabinet?
An IKEA kitchen is flexible, so you can organize it to your liking. For example, you can fit a fridge with a niche height of 122cm in a FAKTUM kitchen cabinet of 211cm high. You're left with 70cm of storage space. Here, you can put your plastic containers, for example. Or you choose a smaller fridge, so there's room for a freezer as well.
Do you have a ventilating shelf?
Check whether you have a ventilating shelf. This should be placed under the fridge or freezer, so that the hot air can easily escape. You can recognize this shelf by the narrow grid that is screwed onto it. You can buy one at IKEA.
