What are the pros and cons of a No Frost fridge?

A No Frost fridge is more expensive than the average fridge, but it does have a number of major advantages. You never have to defrost the freezer compartment of a fridge with No Frost and your frozen food retain their flavor and structure. In this article, we've listed the largest advantages and disadvantages.

What's NoFrost?

What's NoFrost?

A fridge with No Frost extracts both the air as well as any humidity from the freezer compartment. Because of this, the humidity freezes outside of the freezer compartment. The freezer regularly defrosts the ice and evaporates it. The fan blows the cold, dry air back into the freezer compartment. This way, no ice will build up on the fridge interior or the products inside.

Pro: never defrost again

Pro: never defrost again

Thanks to No Frost, you'll never have to defrost again. This is one of the biggest advantages of this technique. You no longer have to empty the freezer compartment 5 to 6 times a year to remove all the ice. As a result, you don't have to spend as much time on maintenance.

Pro: fresh products

Pro: fresh products

A fridge without anti-ice buildup will create ice crystals on your frozen groceries. These crystals affect the taste and structure of your frozen fruit. Your ice cream also changes from creamy to icy and watery over time. Thanks to No Frost, you aren't bothered with this. That way, your ice cream will stay tasty.

Pro: comfort

Due to ice buildup, the drawers in the freezer compartment freeze, packages will freeze to the back wall, and you can barely read labels. With No Frost, you're not bothered with this. You can easily pull out the drawers and see what you need. Easy as that.

Con: more expensive

Con: more expensive

Because of this technique, you page slightly more for a No Frost fridge. On average, you pay about € 127 more. Don't think No Frost is worth the extra money? There are also fridges with Low Frost. You only have to defrost these models once or twice a year.

Con: not as silent

Con: not as silent

A No Frost fridge generally makes a bit more sound than a model without No Frost. That's because it has a built-in fan, which can make a blowing or buzzing noise. At a higher price, you can also find a model with No Frost and a lower noise level.
