How do you update the firmware on your camera?
When should I update my firmware?
You'll find a registration form with your camera. You can use it to let the manufacturer know that you've bought their camera. If you provide the serial number, the manufacturer knows exactly which camera you have. If you register the camera, the manufacturer will keep you updates on developments about your camera. This includes firmware updates.
Prefer not to register your camera? Make sure to regularly visit the website of the manufacturer to check for updates.
How should you update your firmware?
In the menu of your camera, you can see which firmware version your camera has. You'll find more information about this in the manual of your camera. Check the website of the manufacturer to see what the latest firmware version is. You only have to perform an update if the version on the website has a higher number than the version you see on the display of your camera.
You now have to follow the instructions of the manufacturer. With most updates, you have to download a file and save it on a memory card to perform the update. If you then insert the memory card in the camera, you can install the new version on it. Make sure that your battery is fully charged when you update the camera. If it turns off during this process, it could be that you can't get your camera to work anymore.
