5 tips to fix a dryer leak
Solve dryer leakage
If there's water running from your dryer, there are a few tips that could help you.
- Tip 1: level the dryer
- Tip 2: clean the lint trap
- Tip 3: clean the condenser
- Tip 4: check the drain hose
- Tip 5: empty the condenser reservoir
Tip 1: level the dryer
If your dryer isn't level or tilts forward, the water that releases during the drying process can't drain properly. That can result in a leakage. Check if the dryer is level with a spirit level. Isn't that the case? Turn the adjustable legs until the air bubble of your spirit level is in the middle. Rotate the legs at the front up a bit if your dryer tilts forward.
Tip 2: clean the lint trap
The lint trap collects the dust that releases during the drying process. You clean this filter after every drying cycle. If you don't, the lint trap can get clogged. Your laundry can't dry properly anymore, and it can result in a leak at the bottom of the dryer. Remove the trap from the dryer and remove the dust. Use a vacuum to clean the trap completely.
Tip 3: clean the condenser
If your condenser is clogged, you can get a leakage at the bottom of the dryer. Do you have a condenser dryer? Remove the condenser from the dryer and rinse it with a shower head. You can't remove the condenser of a heat pump dryer, and with some dryers it's self-cleaning. You can clean the grid of the condenser with the brush of your vacuum. Check the manual of your dryer before you get started.
tip 4: check the drain hose
Is your dryer connected to the water drain? The drain hose automatically drains the moisture from your clothes. This hose can get clogged, or it can even tear. In that case, it can result in a leakage or a water buildup in the drum. Check if there's a bend or blockage in the hose, and clean it. Also check if the drain hose is attached properly. If there's a leak at the back, it's often because the hose isn't attached properly.
Tip 5: empty the condenser reservoir
With many dryers, the moisture ends up in a condenser reservoir. As soon as the condenser reservoir is full, you have to empty it. If you don't, a condenser reservoir can overflow and the water will look for another way out. There might also appear a crack in the condenser reservoir. Fill the reservoir with water from the faucet, and check if no water gets out. Replace the reservoir if it's leaking.
