6 tips if your dehumidifier doesn't collect moisture

Has your dehumidifier been running for a while, but you don't see moisture in the water tank? Chances are that your dehumidifier isn't working properly. Usually, this problem is easy to solve. We're happy to explain what the causes of this problem are and what you can do to solve the problem. Very useful!

Solution no moisture in the water tank

Dehumidifier

Is your dehumidifier not collecting moisture in the water tank? We'll give you some tips to solve this problem below.

  • Tip 1: close the windows and doors
  • Tip 2: replace the air filter
  • Tip 3: check the humidity level
  • Tip 4: check the suitable working temperature
  • Tip 5: clean the air supply or air outlet
  • Tip 6: move the dehumidifier so it's freestanding

Tip 1: close the windows and doors

Dehumidifier

Your dehumidifier won't work as it should if new and possible humid air flows into the room continuously. So make sure to reduce ventilation by closing your windows and doors as much as possible.

Tip 2: replace the air filter

Dehumidifier

If the filter is full, the dehumidifier won't work. Make sure to replace the filter when it's saturated. A washable filter has to be cleaned once every 1 or 2 months. And replaceable filters have to be replaced after 6 months or so.

Tip 3: check the humidity level

Dehumidifier

It's possible that the humidity in the room is too low. With a hygrometer, you can check whether the set humidity is higher than the humidity in the room. A dehumidifier extracts moisture from the air, so it won't work if a room where the humidity level is lower than the humidity you've set. A dehumidifier doesn't humidify the air, that's what a humidifier is for.

Tip 4: check the suitable working temperature

Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier only works at the right ambient temperature. The minimum working temperature of a condensation dehumidifier is 16°C. For an adsorption dehumidifier, the minimum working temperature is lower than 16°C. That's why it's important to check which type of dehumidifier you have and what the suitable working temperature is.

Tip 5: clean the air supply or air outlet

If the air supply of your dehumidifier is blocked, it won't be able to suck in air. Is the outlet blocked? The dehumidifier won't be able to blow out the dehumidified air. As a result, it won't work properly and it won't collect moisture in the water tank. That's why you should regularly clean the air openings.

Tip 6: move the dehumidifier so it's freestanding

Make sure there's enough room around the dehumidifier, so it can continue to suck in the air. Place the dehumidifier at least 20cm from a wall and make sure it's on a flat surface to ensure it works optimally.
