5 tips for sustainable washing and drying
Get started on washing and drying more sustainably
You can wash and dry more sustainably with your washer dryer combination thanks to the following tips:
- Tip 1. Spin your laundry at a high speed
- Tip 2. Dose your detergent
- Tip 3. Select the eco cycle or wash at a low temperature
- Tip 4. Select the dryness level
- Tip 5. Use a umbrella drying rack or drying rack
Tip 1. Spin at a high speed
You can spin your laundry at 1400 or 1600RPM to save energy. Your laundry will come out of the drum driest with 1600RPM. After spinning, your laundry doesn't need to be in the dryer as long. That way, you save time and energy. Keep in mind that not all cycles use the highest speed. For example, the drum doesn't spin as fast with a cycle for delicate laundry. That's to keep your blouse beautiful for longer.
Tip 2: dose your detergent
Use the right amount of detergent and fabric softener. If you put in too much detergent, the washer dryer combination needs to use more rinses to get rid of all the detergent. That's why you should check the label on the bottle to see how much detergent you need. With the right dose, you save water and energy and you clothes won't wear as quickly.
Tip 3: use the eco cycle or wash as at a low temperature
With the eco cyle, you can wash energy-efficiently at 40 or 60°C. Keep in mind that the wash cycle will take longer than a standard cotton cycle. Do you have a shirt that smells musty, but isn't stained? You can wash it at a temperature as low as 20°C. That way, you freshen up your laundry and save energy. Thanks to the low temperature, you don't have to worry that your clothes will shrink either.
Tip 4. select the dryness level yourself
You can select the dryness level yourself and save energy. If you want to lower your energy costs, choose the option iron dry or gentle dry. Your laundry will still be slightly moist when it comes from the drum, because this cycle dries for a shorter amount of time. That's better for your energy bill, the environment, and your laundry. If you want to dry a dress shirt, you can use an iron to reduce wrinkles and dry the fabric.
Tip 5: use a drying rack or umbrella drying rack
A washer dryer combination doesn't have the capacity to dry all of the laundry after you've washed it. With a 10/5kg washer dryer combination, you can wash 10kg and dry half that amount. You can hang the other half out to dry on a drying rack or umbrella drying rack. You can place an umbrella drying rack with ground anchor anywhere in your garden. That means you can move it if there's more sun in the back of the garden. You anchor an umbrella drying rack with ground socket in concrete, so it's extra secure.
