How do you set up a Netgear router?
Set up your Netgear router
You need at least 1 Ethernet cable, your modem, and a computer for the setup. We also recommend getting a UTP cable for each device you want to connect to your router. Turn off your modem, as it needs to be reset so it'll connect to your router right away. After that, go through these 3 steps:
- Step 1: place your router
- Step 2: connect the router
- Step 3: log in to your router
Step 1: place your router
Place your router in a central location, so all of the devices that use the internet are equally close to the router. If you place your most important devices near your router, you ensure optimal speed. But don't place your router right next to other devices to prevent disruptions. Want to mount the router to the wall? Mount it as high as possible so it's not in the way.
Step 2: connect the router
Connect your modem to the yellow connector of your router with a network cable. Go ahead and make a cup of coffee and wait 10 minutes. Then, turn your modem back on. Make sure the WiFi of your modem is switched off. You can do this via the website of your provider. After that, press the 'Power On/Off' button of your router. Your router will now connect to your modem. The connection is successful if the second light from the top or the second light from the left on your router stays white.
Step 3: log in to your
Connect your router to your computer with a UTP cable. Or, look for your Netgear router via the 'WiFi settings' on your computer. Click it and log in with the password on the label of your router. Then, log in to your router via your browser. Enter 'routerlogin.net' and follow the instructions on the screen. Make sure your router and computer are connected, of you won't get any instructions after you log in.
