Get started on recycling Nespresso capsules

Do you want to you use your Nespresso sustainably? Recycling the aluminum capsules is a crucial part of this. If you recycle, the coffee and the capsule itself get a second life. Collect all your used coffee capsules and return them to Nespresso. That way, you can enjoy a cup of coffee in a sustainable way. We'll explain how to return the capsules on this page.

Recycle Nespresso capsules

Nespresso works with a recycling program to recycle as many capsules as possible. The aluminum Nespresso capsules are made of 80% recycled aluminum. You can help and recycle your old coffee capsules. You can read how to do so here.

  1. Collect all your used capsules and put them in the recycle bag.
  2. Bring the full recycle bag to a Nespresso Boutique or give it to the delivery driver of your delivery service.
  3. The capsules arrive at Nespresso and they'll separate the coffee residue and the aluminum.

How do you get a recycle bag?

A resealable recycle bag can fit 200 capsules. This recycle bag consist out of recycled materials for at least 60%. You can get this bag from a Nespresso Boutique for free, or add it to you online order.

Recycling aluminum capsules

Nespresso recycles old capsules to new capsules, cans, and bikes. The recycling of aluminum costs 95% less energy than the production of new aluminum. The capsules are made of aluminum, so they are 100% recyclable. Aluminum always remains recyclable. Nespresso uses all recycled materials of the capsules in various products.

Recycling coffee residues

In addition to capsules, Nespresso also recycles coffee residue. Nothing from the capsules is lost. Nespresso mainly uses the coffee residue to make compost and fertilizer. Farmers use the compost and fertilizer on their farms. Nespresso also supplies compost to ecological vegetable gardens.
