Your washer dryer combination vibrates or makes noise, what can you do about it?

Your washer dryer combination produces a lot of noise and you want to solve this quickly. To find the right solution, you'll first have to find the cause. It's important to discover what sound you hear exactly and when. In this article, you'll find the most common sounds of washer dryer combinations.

Solve washer dryer combination noise

Washer dryer combination

When your washer dryer combination produces a lot of noise, you'll first have to listen to the type of noise. We distinguish the following types of noise:

  • Tip 1. Wiggling noise: level your washing machine
  • Tip 2. Vibrating noise: redistribute your laundry
  • Tip 3. Screeching noise: check the bearings
  • Tip 4. Pounding noise: check the shock absorbers
  • Tip 5. Ticking noise at the bottom: clean the filter
  • Tip 6. Ticking noise in the water pipe: insert a water hammer arrester
  • Tip 7. Noise with a Samsung washing machine: calibrate the machine

Tip 1. Wiggling noise: level your washer dryer combination

Spirit level washer dryer combination

A wiggling sound occurs when your washer dryer combination isn't leveled. Put a spirit level on top of the washer dryer combination and check if the bubble is located between the 2 bars. Isn't this the case? Adjust the leveling feet until the bubble is in the center. Due to spinning, the nuts can become loose after a while. That's why it's best to level the machine on a regular basis.

Tip 2. Vibrating noise: redistribute your laundry

Laundry in drum

When you hear a vibrating sound coming from your washer dryer combination, it often means the drum is too full. You'll often hear this when washing towels or bedding, because the wet laundry becomes really heavy. It might also be the case that the wet laundry is mainly on one side of the drum. This causes the washer dryer combination to get out of balance. Stop the cycle and redistribute the laundry over the entire drum. Restart the cycle. If you mainly notice a vibrating sound during spinning, choose a lower speed.

Tip 3. Screeching noise: check the bearings

Bearings washer dryer combination

Do you hear a beeping or screeching noise during spinning? The bearings might be worn. Luckily, this is easy to test. Spin the empty drum manually. If this is easy, the bearings are fine. If the drum wobbles or feels a little rusty, it's time to replace the bearings. Contact the supplier if the appliance is still within the warranty period.

Tip 4. Pounding noise: check the shock absorbers

Shock absorbers washer dryer combination

When the shock absorbers and springs lose their strength, the drum gets a lot of freedom of movement. Shaking the drum back and forth creates a pounding noise. Luckily, you can fix this by replacing the shock absorbers or springs. Again, contact the supplier if the device is still within the warranty period. Call a repair service if the warranty period has expired.

Tip 5. Ticking noise at the bottom: clean the filter

Filter washer dryer combination

A ticking noise often occurs when objects from the filter get inside the drum. These are often small parts that were left in pockets, like buttons and hair clips. You can avoid the ticking noise by properly cleaning the filter once every few months. Is the filter empty, but do you still hear the ticking noise? The buttons on pants or the zipper of a vest often hit against the door.

Tip 6. Ticking noise in the water pipe: insert a water hammer arrester

Water in the drum

Noise from the water pipe is caused by too much air. We call this water hammer. To avoid this ticking, pounding, or vibrating noise from the water pipe, purchase a water hammer arrester to absorb the difference in pressure. To install this, you first have to close off the main valve. Then, close the water supply of the washer dryer combination and open it again. Install the water hammer between the water supply and the washer dryer combination with a T-unit. Seal the T-unit with sealing tape. Didn't it work, or aren't you good with things like this yourself? Call a plumber.

Tip 7. Samsung washing machine produces noise: calibrate

Samsung washer dryer combination

With a Samsung washer dryer combination, it's important to calibrate the machine. You do this after you level it. During spinning, the nuts can become loose. That's why it's a good idea to repeat these steps on a regular basis. Calibrate your washer dryer combination when everything is leveled again. This takes about 3 minutes, and you can do this via the display. You'll read how to do this here.

You want a really silent washer dryer combination

Energy label of the washer dryer combination

Did you try everything, and does the washer dryer combination still produce a lot of noise? Or, is it an older model and don't you think it's worth it to replace parts? Look into buying a new washer dryer combination. You can wash the most silently with a model of 71dB or less. Thanks to the low noise level, you can place it near your living room, home office, or bedroom.
