Choose fast charger for iPhone
Since the iPhone 8, every iPhone supports fast charging. You do need the right charger and cable for this. Keep the following in mind:
- Choose a Power Delivery charger.
- Make sure you have the correct cable.
- Choose Apple or a different brand.
iPhone models without charger
Nowadays, all iPhone devices come without a charger. You do get a charging cable. This cable doesn't fit on old USB-A chargers, only on USB-C fast chargers. Always choose a fast charger with a USB-C port for your iPhone without charger, otherwise the included cable won't fit.
Choose a Power Delivery fast charger
You can quickly charge Apple devices with a Power Delivery fast charger. Choose a charger with at least 20W power. After 30 minutes of charging, your battery is charged to about 50%. With the old 5W charger that used to come with your iPhone, you could only charge 20% in half an hour. You can easily use a charger with a higher power, as this won't damage your battery. With such a charger, you can also quickly charge your iPad or MacBook.
Choose the right cable
Carefully check the cable connector if you buy a charger with a cable. For your iPhone 14 or older, you need a charger with a Lightning cable. Have an iPhone 15 or newer? Choose a charger with a USB-C cable. Go for an extra sturdy nylon cable, because standard plastic cables break easily. Want more freedom of movement while charging? Choose a 2 or 3m cable.
Choose Apple or another brand
You don't necessarily need an original Apple charger to achieve the maximum charging speed. As long as the charger supports Power Delivery and delivers at least 20W, your iPhone will charge at the maximum speed. It's not a problem if the charger can deliver more power than 20W. Power Delivery chargers never deliver more power than your device can handle. That means a 45W Power Delivery simply provides 20W to your iPhone.
