You can save a lot with a smart thermostat, even outside of the winter season. You can do this during the summer as well. Follow these 5 tips:

Tip 1: lower the temperature, but don't turn it off
You use the least amount of gas when your boiler is turned off completely. This means that you don't warm up your house and water at all. You'll probably need hot water at some point during the summer, which is why you want the combi boiler to be on. You'll use more gas in the end, because starting the boiler uses more. Even with a solo boiler, it's best to keep the thermostat around 15°C. There may be some cold days during the summer. In that case, it'd be more expensive to turn the boiler back on.
Tip 2: lower the inlet temperature of your boiler
Modern boilers have an option to lower the inlet temperature. You'll use less gas, because the water that flows through your pipes doesn't become as hot. You can set the boiler temperature between 35°C and 60°C. Set the temperature of the tap water to 60 to 80°C. Below this temperature, the legionella bacteria may start to grow.
Tip 3: use the summer mode or eco mode
When you set the thermostat to 15°C during the summer, the heating will still turn on at night. That's why you should set the thermostat to summer mode, because that way the thermostat doesn't just ask for heat and you can just leave the boiler on. A smart thermostat automatically switches between the eco and heating mode. That way, your house will still be warm when it's been cold for a couple of days.
Tip 4: turn the temperature up or down gradually
Depending on your heating system, it takes some time for your house to get warm. That's why you should lower your heating gradually, so you know which temperature is right for you. Keep an eye on your monitor too. That way, you'll be sure you're not using gas accidentally. A smart thermostat keeps track of how much gas you use.
Tip 5: maintain your boiler during the summer
You don't want to be cold during the winter. That's why the summer is a good time to maintain your boiler or radiators. For example, vent the radiators or have your boiler checked by a technician. A smart thermostat notifies you automatically when your boiler isn't working properly anymore.
