How do you maintain your filter coffee machine?
Get started with maintaining your filter coffee machine
Descale your filter coffee machine after the 100th paper filter, once the box is empty. If you don't use paper filters, it's best to descale the coffee machine once every 3 months or when you hear a bubbling noise and it takes a while to make coffee.
- Step 1. Choose the right descaler.
- Step 2. Go through the descaling process.
- Step 3. Clean the separate parts by hand.
Step 1: choose the right descaler
Check the manual of your filter coffee machine to see which descaler is best for your machine. If it doesn't say so specifically, we recommend a universal descaler. All universal descalers work in the same way. You simply put the liquid descaler and water in the water tank. Keep in mind that the proportions may vary, because one water tank is larger than the other.
Step 2: go through the descaling process
Pour 1 to 2 cups of descaler and the same amount of water into the water tank. Turn on your filter coffee machine and let it run until the water tank is empty and stops dripping. Empty the pot with descaling agent and water. Repeat this process 2 more times, but with water only. This is to make sure that you rinse all remaining residue of the descaler. After that, your machine is ready for another 100 brews.
Step 3: clean the separate parts by hand
It's important to regularly descale the pipes, but the separate parts as well. The coffee pot and the filter holder, for example. You have to clean these parts by hand. If you want to keep your coffee machine spotless, you can clean the exterior with a cloth. Even if your device has a warming plate, as you can easily clean this with a wet cloth.
