How do you connect your PS4 controller to your PS4?
Preparation
Before you start, you need a few things:
- A PlayStation 4 Slim / Pro / Standard
- Your PS4 controller(s)
- The included USB cable. Is there no USB cable included? You need a USB-A to micro USB cable.
Connect via USB
The easiest way to connect the PS4 controller to your PlayStation is with a USB cable.
- Turn on the PS4 with the button on the PlayStation itself. Don't press any of the buttons on the controller yet.
- Connect the USB cable to one of the USB ports on the PS4.
- Connect the micro USB side of the cable to the port at the top of your PS4 controller.
- Press the round PlayStation button in the middle of your controller until the lightbar of the controller lights up in blue. Sometimes, you have to press the PlayStation button multiple times.
- Doesn't this work? Try a different USB-A to micro USB cable first.
- Choose the profile you want from the ones on your screen.

Connect a second controller via Bluetooth
Do you want to connect a second, third, or fourth controller to your PlayStation 4, but don't you have a micro USB cable? Connect the controller to your PlayStation via Bluetooth.
- Turn on the PS4 with the button on the PlayStation 4.
- Press the PlayStation button on your controller for a few seconds. The light bar starts blinking.
- To to 'Settings' on your PlayStation.
- Select 'Devices' and click 'Bluetooth devices'.
- Select your new controller and follow the instructions on the screen.

Can't connect the controller via USB?
Can't connect via cable? There are a few other things you can try:
- Connect the cable to a different port on your PS4. The PS4 Pro has an extra USB port at the back.
- Try a different USB to micro USB cable, like the one of an Android smartphone, and repeat the process.
- Charge the controller for a while.
- Doesn't the light bar light up in yellow or blue? It's possible the controller or cable is broken. Retry the process with a different controller or cable.
Can't connect the controller via Bluetooth?
Doesn't the Bluetooth window show your new controller? You have to enable the 'pairing mode' of your controller. We'll explain how to do so here.
- Press and hold the PlayStation button for 3 seconds.
- Press and hold the 'Share' button, above the arrow buttons, and the PlayStation button at the same time.
- The light bar should blink now. Select your controller in the Bluetooth window of your PlayStation.

Still can't connect your controller to the PlayStation 4? The cable or controller might be broken. We recommend testing the micro USB cable with a different device, such as a Samsung phone. If the cable does work with the phone, the micro USB port of your controller is probably broken. In that case, we recommend purchasing a new micro USB to USB-A cable.
