Getting started with the DJI Mini 3 Pro

You received your new DJI Mini 3 Pro and you want to get started with the extensive flight options as soon as possible. For example, you can use the ActiveTrack function for cinematic footage during which your drone follows you. With vertical shooting, you can record vertical footage in high resolution which you can upload to social media. We'll explain how to get started with these functions.

Getting started with the DJI Mini 3 Pro

The DJI Mini 3 Pro has many useful functions that you can easily use with these tips. This allows you to easily record high-quality cinematic footage.

Tip 1: follow moving objects with ActiveTrack

Tip 2: record footage for social media with vertical shooting

Tip 3: record cinematic videos with MasterShots

Tip 4: avoid obstacles with obstacle detection

Tip 1: track moving objects with ActiveTrack

DJI Mini 3 Pro Active Track

With the ActiveTrack function, the drone follows a moving object. This can be yourself, but also an animal or car. If the drone is turned on, you can aim the camera at the object you want to follow. With your finger, you can select the subject on the screen of your remote. This way, you can draw a green square around it. At the bottom of the screen, you'll see 3 options. These are Active Track, Spotlight, and POI. Choose Active Track and tap GO. The drone will follow the selected object and keep a safe distance.

Tip 2: record social media footage with vertical shooting

DJI Mini 3 Pro Vertical Shooting

In the vertical shooting mode, the gimbal of the drone turns 90 degrees. This way, you can record vertical footage. It's possible to place this footage on your social media, for example. You don't have to cut out vertical videos from horizontal videos while you edit anymore, so you'll have high-quality footage. If you use the DJI Mini 3 Pro together with the DJI RC Smart Controller, you can rotate the gimbal with the C2 button. Press this button again and the camera rotates back. Do you prefer to use the display of the remote or a DJI Remote Controller with your phone? On the display, you can tap the icon with a triangle and an arrow next to the recording button. This way, the gimbal also turns to the vertical shooting mode.

Tip 3: record cinematic videos with MasterShots

DJI Mini 3 Pro MasterShots

With DJI MasterShots, you can make cinematic footages during which the drone flies in a smooth motion by itself. On the display of your remote or phone, you can tap the movie icon on the right side. This button is above the red recording button. Choose MasterShots in the menu that opens. On the display, you can select a subject like a building. The drone will move on its own and record different types of footage while it zooms, turns, and flies away, for example. The drone also has a QuickShots function. This way, you can choose which recording mode you use. You can find the option in the same menu.

Tip 4: avoid obstacles with obstacle detection

DJI Mini 3 Pro obstacle detection

The DJI Mini 3 Pro has obstacle detection at the front, back, and bottom. If you turn on obstacle detection, the drone will fly around obstacles smoothly or brake. Don't you want to use this? You can easily turn the mode off. Press the 3 white dots at the top right of your display. The settings menu now opens. Under the 'Safety' header, choose from 3 options under 'Obstacle Avoidance Action'. In the 'Bypass' mode, the drone flies around obstacles. In the 'Brake' mode, the drone brakes when it sees an obstacle. If you choose 'Off', obstacle detection is turned off. In this mode, you have to watch out for obstacles and fly the drone around them yourself.
