Expert review of the TCL C843

In this review, I'm testing the 55-inch version of the TCL C843. The TV is also available as a 65-inch and 75-inch TV. The setup went very smoothly. I attach the steel stand to the screen and with some help, I place the screen on my TV cabinet. I notice that the TV stands very firmly. After I switch on the TV, I go through the long Google TV setup. I do have access to the most important apps right after this, like Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video.

The QLED technology and Mini-LED local dimming ensure a high brightness. I notice that the light parts of the screen are very bright when I'm watching a nature documentary, for example. Thanks to the QLED technology, bright colors also look very vibrant. Pink flowers on the foreground really splash off the screen. This makes colorful images look lifelike and striking.

The Mini-LED backlight consists of thousands of small LED lights that light up and dim individually. This makes dark parts of the screen look very dark, and you're barely bothered by a glow around bright objects. If I see an image of a white flower on a dark background, I can see that the difference between light and dark is very big. The glow around the flower petals is barely noticeable. This makes these images look very realistic.

If I sit in front of the television at an angle, I can see the image well. I notice that bright colors don't become muted, but remain bright. If the sun shines on the screen, I'm barely bothered by reflections on the screen. This is mainly useful when I watch a movie or series that has many dark scenes during the day. I don't miss any details during a thrilling detective this way.

With the TCL C843, I can enjoy a powerful and full sound. The television has 3 speakers and a built-in subwoofer. During a chase scene in an action movie, the sound of the motors sounds realistic. This immerses me into the movie. I don't watch movies often, so this audio system is enough for me. Do you want a home cinema with realistic surround sound? You need at least a separate soundbar with Dolby Atmos.

The stand of this television is made of steel. This makes it feel sturdy. I don't think it'll break off when I move my television. It also looks chic in my interior, which is a great plus. I do think it's unfortunate that the stand takes up a lot of space. It's quite low and sticks out at the front, so I can't place a soundbar in front of my television.

With the included remote, I can control both the television and the Google TV smart platform. It's very convenient that I only need 1 remote for both. I can quickly open Netflix and YouTube at the press of a button. The remote is made of plastic, so it does feel fragile. As long as I use the remote carefully, this won't be a problem. Thanks to its narrow design, it feels comfortable in my hand.

As someone who loves Netflix and Videoland, I'm happy with the extensive Google TV smart menu of this television. I can easily watch my favorite movies and series. The menu is clear. I can place my favorite apps at the top, so I can quickly navigate the menu. Below this, Google TV shows ideas for movies from different genres.
