Expert review Samsung Galaxy S22
New: the Samsung Galaxy S24 series
Samsung has released the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. As a result, the Samsung Galaxy S22 isn't as readily available anymore. Aside from the Samsung S24, the S24 series also includes the Samsung S24 Plus and S24 Ultra. All devices have a powerful processor, so they can handle any task.
Samsung Galaxy S22
- The compact device easily fits in your hand, pocket, or bag.
- Thanks to the night mode on all lenses, you can take sharp photos during the day and the evening.
- You can use this powerful device for the most demanding apps and 3D games.
- Samsung doesn't include a charger, so you have to buy this yourself.
- The device doesn't charge as fast as the high-end smartphones of many other brands.
First impression of the Samsung Galaxy S22
I notice right away that the box of the Samsung S22 is pretty flat. That's because Samsung doesn't include a charger in the box. It does come with a USB-C to USB-C cable. The screen of the Samsung S22 is completely flat. This way, the sides of the device are flat as well. I think that's pretty nice when I hold the device. The smartphone is lightweight and easily fits in my hand.
Compact device, Full HD screen
Thanks to the small screen, the Samsung S22 is very compact. That's why it's one of the few smartphones which I can easily control with one hand or put in my pocket. The S22 has a Full HD screen that's less sharp than that of other high-end smartphones. That doesn't stand out all the time. Only when I watch a movie or play a 3D game, I miss the sharpness of a Quad HD screen.
Battery lasts a working day, no charger in the box.
Because the Samsung S22 is compact, it also only has room for a small battery. Luckily, I notice the device is very energy-efficient. With average use, the battery easily lasts until the end of my working day. When I get home in the evening, I do have to charge the S22. This charger sadly isn't included in the box. I have to buy it separately. With the Samsung 25W charger, I can charge the battery in a bit more than 1 hour. Compared to smartphones of many other brands nowadays, that isn't very fast.
Camera's work in all circumstances.
-
With the standard lens, I can take razor-sharp photos
-
Thanks to the telephoto lens, I can take sharp photos of boats from far away.
-
The photos are also clear and detailed in the evening
-
With the wide-angle lens, my night photos are pretty sharp.
In terms of cameras, The Samsung Galaxy S smartphones stand out for years. I can also take razor-sharp photos with the Samsung S22. Thanks to the telephoto lens, the photos are just as sharp when I zoom in 3 times. This device has the new night mode for the wide-angle lens and telephoto lens. Night photos with these lenses aren't as sharp as with the standard lens, but I'm still impressed. With other smartphone cameras, the night photos with a wide-angle lens and telephoto lens are more blurry.
Powerful smartphone
As you'd expect from a high-end smartphone, the Samsung S22 is a powerful device. I can smoothly switch between apps. In addition, it never slows down or buffers for long. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is also very fast with demanding apps like Photoshop or 3D games like PUBG,
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is worth your money in many aspects. The small size is unique and convenient. The shorter battery life is the price you pay for a small smartphone. The S22 lasts the whole working day, but that's a few hours fewer than with other high-end smartphones. The night mode on all lenses is special. Photos are clear and colorful during the day and evening. In addition, the powerful S22 is suitable for intensive use, thanks to its processing power.
