Expert review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15
Pros
- Thanks to the relatively large, 1-inch sensor and the light-sensitive Leica lens, you can use the camera in various lighting situations.
- With the tiltable screen, you can easily take selfies or record vlogs.
- The touchscreen makes the camera user-friendly.
Cons
- The camera doesn't have a viewfinder to determine your photo frame.
- Noise becomes visible when you zoom in on the photos, that's what makes the zoom range of 24-70mm relatively limited.
First impression of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15
When I grab the camera, it feels sturdy. Even though it has a compact size, it feels comfortable in my hand. That's because of the somewhat ergonomic design. All the buttons are located on the right side, so you can control the camera with 1 hand. The camera has a tiltable screen to take photos from any angle. The disadvantage is that the camera doesn't have a viewfinder. I went outside to take photos during a sunny day, and the sun reflected on my screen.
User-friendly camera
I think the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15 is easy in use. That's partially because of the tiltable touchscreen. This allows you to adjust the settings and choose a focus point. The menu of the camera is well-organized and the text is relatively big, which makes it properly visible. You can adjust the aperture with the control ring on the lens. Because this ring is very slim, you sometimes turn the zoom ring along. Especially if you have large hands.
Sharp photos
With the relatively large, 1-inch sensor of the camera, I take sharp photos. The camera has a 4K burst function, which allows you to capture activity moments effortlessly. I chose a 4K pre-burst, for example. The camera takes 30 images before and after you press the shutter release button. As a result, you'll have a series of 60 photos of which you can choose the perfect activity moment. As a novice photographer, you can choose from various filters to add a special effect to your photo, like sunshine or miniature.
Suitable for vlogging
With this compact camera, you can record 4K resolution videos. The tiltable screen makes the camera suitable for vloggers. You'll clearly see what you're recording. While vlogging, I can easily adjust the settings thanks to the touchscreen. The built-in image stabilization reduces motion blur. That's useful when you record out of hand. If you don't like this, you can put the camera on a tripod. The camera doesn't have a microphone connector to improve the sound quality of your videos.
Manual mode
The camera is suitable for advanced photographers too. I completed the entire setup of the camera manually. I adjusted the shutter speed, the aperture, and the ISO value to get a photo with proper lighting. Thanks to the aperture of f/1.4, you can photograph in situations with low light too. For a compact camera in this category, this aperture is very large. But you're more likely to get noise in photos that you capture in dark locations.
Conclusion
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15 is a versatile compact camera. As a novice photographer, you can add different effects to your photos. You can easily control the camera via the touchscreen and the menu is clear. Advanced photographers can set the camera according to their own liking. The camera is suitable for vloggers too, thanks to the tiltable screen. The 1-inch sensor and the large, maximum aperture make the camera light sensitive. You can take sharp photos and videos in 4K resolution.
