Expert review of the Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K TV
Samsung Neo QLED QN900A
- The 8K resolution and the Neo AI Quantum Processor 8K ensure that 4K images look even sharper.
- Thanks to the Neo QLED screen, you can watch images with a powerful contrast, a high brightness, and a wide color gamut.
- Object Tracking Sound Pro provides a powerful, spatial sound and a true-to-life sound reproduction.
- There's not a lot of 8K content available yet, and Full HD live television is never as sharp as real 8K images.
The first impression of the Samsung QN900A
What stands out about the QN900A right away, is how thin the TV is and how simplistic it looks. The screen hardly has bezels, so you're not distracted from the screen. The back also looks simple, with just 1 input for the cable of the One Connect Box. The 65-inch version that I'm testing also has a webcam and soundbar. Unfortunately, these aren't included with the QN900A. You can purchase them separately.
Detailed and bright images
One of the properties that distinguishes the QN900A from other televisions is the 8K resolution. Though there's not a lot of 8K content available, the Neo Quantum Processor makes 8K images with a low resolution sharper. I do see the difference with a 4K television. Details like the textures on coral in a nature film are displayed clearly. Combined with the high brightness of 4000 nits, this ensures an exceptionally bright and detailed image.
Powerful contrast with good black levels
Thanks to the new Neo QLED technology, thousands of small LED lights light up. And these lights dim with dark parts of the image. The QN900A has a powerful contrast as a result, the dark parts of the screen are truly black and the light parts very bright. I can see a true-to-life contrast and many details in shadows when I'm watching a night-time scene in a nature documentary. But with truly dark images like a starry night, I can still see a little glow around bright stars.
Wide viewing angle, little reflections
Thanks to the so-called Ultra Viewing Angle, the QN900A has a good viewing angle. When I watch the TV at an angle, I can still see bright colors and a strong contrast. Only when I move further away from the TV, the image quality decreases. Thanks to the anti-glare layer, people and objects in the room don't reflect on the screen. Only when bright lights are pointed at the TV, I can see reflections on the screen. Partly thanks to the high brightness of the screen, you don't have to worry about annoying reflections.
Neat, minimalist setup
-
The thin bezel is barely visible when you're in front of the TV.
-
The Attachable Slim One Connect Box fits precisely on the stand of the TV.
In terms of design, I can clearly see that the QN900A is the flagship of the Neo QLED series. Thanks to the Infinity Screen, I can hardlt see a bezel around the screen when I'm right in front of the TV. And only 1 transparent cable is connected to the TV, so the setup looks neat. This cable connects the Attachable Slim One Connect Box with the television. This box provides the TV with all the necessary inputs, such as 4 HDMI 2.1 connectors and USB ports. You can easily click the One Connect Box onto the stand, so you won't be able to see it when you're in front of the TV.
Spatial and rich sound
The QN900A has no less than 6 normal speakers, 2 upward-pointed speakers, and 2 subwoofers that provide a powerful and realistic sound. In addition, Object Tracking Sound Pro ensures that sound comes from different places behind the TV. The audio sounds more spatial as result, placing you right in the middle of your movie, series, or game. Especially when watching an action movie, I notice that the deep bass is clearly present and the sound comes from various sides. With SpaceFit, the TV analyzes your living room and adjusts the sound reproduction to it. This way, you can be sure that you're enjoying the best sound.
Clear smart menu with free content
-
The Tizen smart platform is a clear menu at the bottom of the screen.
-
You can find a large assortment of free content in Samsung TV Plus.
Though the useful smart menu doesn't differ much from previous versions in terms of appearance, it does have more to offer in terms of functions and apps. For example, Samsung launches its own streaming service called Samsung TV Plus. You can watch all kinds of channels with movies, series, sports, or the news for free on it. In addition, the QN900A has the so-called PC on TV. This allows you to easily share the screen of your laptop or PC on the TV. This way, you have a nice extra monitor for your home office.
Energy-efficient and pleasant remote

The back of the SolarCell One Remote
The well-known One Remote Control got an upgrade this year. Though the remote looks the same as previous versions at first glance, there's a big difference. I'm talking about the panel on the back. This allows you to charge the remote with artificial and sunlight, so you no longer have to replace batteries. After charging it for an hour, the remote lasts another year. This Solarcell One Remote is comfortable to hold and easy to control. The minimalist look gives the useful remote a luxurious appearance.
Conclusion
The Samsung Neo QLED QN900A is a true powerhouse that's especially suitable for movie enthusiasts. Thanks to the bright, high-contrast images and the powerful sound, this television is excellent for watching movies and series with HDR images. Though there's not a lot of 8K content available yet, the powerful processor ensures extra sharp 4K images.
