Expert review of the Fujifilm X100VI
Fujifilm X100VI
- The camera has a large 40-megapixel APS-C image sensor, so your photos have a lot of details.
- Thanks to the image stabilization and the large aperture of f/2.0, you can take clear photos with little light.
- With the built-in Film Simulations, always looks like you take photos on an old-fashioned camera roll.
- You can't zoom in or out with the lens, due to the fixed 23mm focal length.
First impression of the Fujifilm X100VI
I love analog photography. That's why I'm happy when I see the retro design of the X100VI, which looks similar to an analog camera. There are 3 dials on top for shutter speed, ISO, and the exposure compensation. With the rotating bezel on the camera lens, I can quickly and easily adjust the aperture. The camera is very compact with a flat lens, so the camera even fits in a handbag. For me, the only disadvantage is that I can't zoom in and out with this lens.
Razor-sharp images thanks to large sensor
I can describe the Fujifilm X100VI best as a mirrorless camera that looks like a compact camera. In this small body, there's a large 40-megapixel APS-C image sensor. It's unique that a compact camera has such a large sensor. Thanks to this, I can create razor-sharp images with a lot of details. Afterwards, I can crop them without quality loss. Despite not being able to zoom in with the camera, I can highlight details this way. For example, I can crop the foreground of a photo.
Smooth videos thanks to image stabilization
The built-in image stabilization (IBIS) in this camera is also new. Because of 2 reasons, this is a nice addition for me. First of all, the IBIS provides stable video images when I record from my hand. I like to record without tripod, but I don't have a steady hand. Because of this, my video footage often looks shaky. The IBIS reduces all these vibrations, so my videos look much smoother. Thanks to the IBIS, I also take sharp photos from my hand with longer shutter speeds. This way, even at night my photos look clear.
High video quality
I'd like to vlog more often, but I'd rather not drag my heavy mirrorless camera with me the entire day. Thanks to its high video quality, the X100VI is a nice vlog camera for me. With the camera, I can record in maximum 6.2K resolution, but it cuts away a small part of the image. That's why I'd rather record in 4K resolution with 30fps. These images are razor-sharp and that's why they're very suitable for my social media channels, such as TikTok and YouTube.
Film Simulations
The well-known Film Simulations of Fujifilm are also on this camera. These filters provide your images with the color effect of old-fashioned 35mm film rolls. I use them both for photos and videos. My images have rich colors thanks to the filters. Without extra post-editing, I place them on social media. The X100VI has 3 new Film Simulations: Reala ACE, Nostalgic Neg, and Eterna Bleach Bypass. I like to play with the Film Simulations until my photos have the desired result.
Conclusion
For me as a hobby photographer, the Fujifilm X100VI is a useful camera. I use it for photography and videography and can create impressive images with little effort. It's compact and light, so I can take it on the go for a day without problems. Do you mainly take photos while traveling, just like me? This camera suits you. If you're looking for a camera for professional photography, choose a mirrorless camera with an exchangeable lens.
