Expert review of the DJI Mini 2
DJI Mini 2 Fly More Combo
- You can easily take the drone with you on a trip thanks to the compact and collapsible design.
- You can capture events and natural areas in detail in 4K resolution with 30fps.
- With a fully charged battery you can make a flight of up to 31 minutes.
- Due to the low weight of the drone, there's a higher risk that the wind will affect its movements.
- In strong winds, you require more energy from the battery to control the drone, which drains the battery faster.
First impression of the DJI Mini 2
I test the Fly More Combo version of the DJI Mini 2. All parts come neatly organized in a bag, so I can easily take the drone with me. Some accessories are hidden in the various storage compartments. I notice there's a rubber band around the drone to protect the propellers. It keeps the propellers in place while transporting the drone, so they can't break or damage. In terms of appearance, the Mini 2 is very similar to the Mavic Mini.
Detailed 4K video images with bright sunlight
While testing this drone, the sun is shining. As a result, I can see the image quality in difficult light right away. Despite the bright sunlight, I'm happy with the result. I'm recording in 4K at 30 fps and the details of the nature reserve are clearly visible. That's because of the high bitrate of 100Mbps, which transfer the information of the video and records a lot of details. I can record at a maximum of 60 fps in Full HD, so my recordings are smooth.
Easily capture videos with different recording options
I can select various recording modes which allows me to capture different kinds of videos. I select Circle in the QuickShot mode to make the drone circle around my subject. I can select the subject and rotational direction myself. I can take high quality photos with the Mini 2. It takes photos in a 12-megapixel resolution. I use the bracketing function which takes 3 photos with different lightings. It combines these photos, so both shadows and uplight are balanced.
You can easily take a lightweight drone with you
The Mini 2 weighs just 249g, is collapsible and has a compact design. This ensures you can easily take it with you and it won't add much weight to your luggage. Another advantage of this drone is that you don't need a drone course. You only need to register it. Due to the low weight, I sometimes receive a notification about a strong wind. The wind affects its movements faster than a heavier drone.
Stable connection via OcuSync 2.0
I don't have any issues with interference in the signal. That's because the Mini 2 uses OcuSync 2.0 video transfer. That means I don't have any interference in the screen even at a great distance. This drone does lack sensors for obstacle detection. That means I need to closely watch where I fly, because I could fly into a tree before I know it. Due to the lack of these sensors, I don't make use of ActiveTrack.
Conclusion
I'm very excited about the DJI Mini 2 and the price-quality ratio is good. This lightweight drone is suitable for starter drone pilots, because you don't need to take a course. Thanks to the compact size, I can take it with me anywhere. Unfortunately, it doesn't detect obstacles, so I need to watch where I fly. I also sometimes get a notification that the wind is too strong.
