First impression of the Canon EOS M50 Mark II
The Canon EOS M50 Mark II looks a lot like its predecessor. The design is compact, but it does have a small ergonomic grip. I can hold the body pretty firmly as a result. I test the vlog kit, which includes a GorillaPod. This is a very useful tripod, because the legs are flexible. This allows me to attach it to lots of different objects. When I push the legs together, I can use it as a selfie stick for vlogging, for example
High image quality
Inside this compact body, there's an APS-C sensor and fast image processor. This ensures sharp photos and videos. I can see the detailed structures of buildings and walls, for example. I can also take sharp photos at night. When I do, I keep the ISO value as low as possible to reduce noise. Thanks to the 4k video resolution, I can record detailed videos. In this resolution, the camera crops the image. You lose part of the image as a result, which is good to keep in mind.
Autofocus with eye detection
The Eye Detection AF works well. When I capture bypassers, the camera follows them accurately. The camera focuses quickly thanks to the Dual Pixel autofocus system by Canon. The eye detection is especially useful for vlogging, because it ensures that the camera focuses on my eyes. This function is also very useful for portrait photographers. I'm not worries abut the eyes being blurry.
Vloggers and livestreaming
You can share footage on YouTube via WiFi and record your activities. I can also easily transfer the footage to my phone to share it on my Instagram account. For my Instagram stories, I record in the portrait mode. This way, the footage has the right size right away. When I use the camera as a webcam, I need the EOS Webcam Utility software that I can install on my laptop.
Easy controls via touchscreen
With the tiltable touchscreen, I can easily set up the camera while I vlog. Canon added some extra functions to the screen. I can enable the video self timer, for example. This gives me time to get ready for my vlog. I can easily send the footage to my laptop or phone via WiFi. That's because of the auto video transcoder. The camera converts your video while you record, so they're ready to share on your social media channels.
Conclusion
The Canon EOS M50 Mark II provides a good image quality for novice photographers and videographers. You can record in 4K resolution and take detailed photos, even in dark locations. The disadvantage of 4K is that the camera crops the image, so the image angle is smaller. The GorillaPod from the vlog kit is very useful because I can use to to attach it to all kinds of objects. The price-quality ratio of the camera is good, but this camera isn't a great improvement if you have its predecessor.
