iRobot Roomba s9+
- Automatically empties dust collector in vacuum cleaner bag.

- Controlled via app, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home .
- Gets to know each room of your house.
- When the robot empties its dust cup, it makes a lot of noise for 10 seconds.
Unpacking and setup
There it is. The iRobot s9+ and all its parts come in a beautiful large box, which is mostly because of the charging dock. If you browse the manual and follow the steps, the charging dock will soon be ready in your living room, with the robot on top of it. It's important to follow the instructions to place the charging dock. Other than that, the setup of the robot vacuum in your living room is a piece of cake.
Pair with the app
As you might expect, I want to be able to control the robot vacuum with my phone as well. I download the app and follow the steps in the manual. Within mere minutes, the robot is connected to my phone and I can start the exploration program. The s9+ robot vacuum starts running and takes its time to get to know the house. It maps the house and gives each room a name. That's useful, because this allows you to have it vacuum the kitchen, for example.
Prepare room
After a couple of cleaning sessions with the robot vacuum, I can say with certainty that it's extremely important to prepare the space. By that, I mean moving cords, my cats' drinking bowls, and small items like lighters out of the way. I also check if there aren't any scattered items under the couch, such as a clothespin. If I don't, the robot gets jammed or even vacuums up my clothespins. That really surprised me.
The cleaning performance
Like I said, the iRobot s9+ has such good suction power that it easily vacuums up a clothespin and shreds it. It easily removes dust, crumbs, and pet hairs from the hard floor and carpet. And when the dust collector is almost full while it's cleaning, the robot empties the dust cup and then continues its cleaning route.
Empty the dust collector
The robot vacuum collects all the dust and dirt it vacuums up in its dust collector. After a couple of cleaning sessions, the dust cup is full. What's unique about this robot vacuum, is that it automatically goes to the charging dock and empties the dust collector when it's full. The dirt is then collected in a vacuum cleaner bag in the charging dock. The only disadvantage of this system is that it's very noisy. While the robot vacuum empties the dust cup, I can't hear the television.
Conclusion
This robot vacuum cleans very well, so it wins from a regular canister vacuum in that regard. The best part is that it empties the dust cup, as you don't have to repeatedly do this yourself. But when the robot vacuum automatically empties the dust collector in the charging dock, it does produce a lot of noise. You don't want to hear that when you're sleeping at night.
